In a briefing sent out to mine employees today, 11 February 2009, an update on the current progress of the VS status was given.
In essence the mine set a target of 559 positions to be offered, and they have to date received 488 applications.
It was stressed that even though 488 employees applied for VS, not all applicants would be successful.
Current stats place the number of applicants from the various grades as follows...
A Band 55
B Band 269
C Band 146
D Band 15
E Band 3
Obviously, this is not good news for us local business people in Oranjemund, but a mine has to be saved, one way or the other.....
