Title: Treasures of the Diamond Coast!
Post by: Michael Alexander on February 21, 2009, 02:58:07 PM
Here is a book that was due to be published. A very interesting read, however, the main sponsor of the book pulled out at the last moment and now they need to know if they can find enough interest to push the publisher to print.... please note the retail price......

For that price, do we get a diamond with the book?

I would be interested to have one, yes.  Just one question - Is it a pictorial collage, or a book?    With more than 1000 photos, maps and tables, there probably aren't much writing in the 330 page book?  msn emoticon (224)

I got an e-mail after my post in which I was informed that there is a lot of reading in it and a lot of research went into the book.

Clint, where did you purchase your copy? Have been trying to source it in Cape Town (Exclusive Books ans Clarkes Bookshop)without success. Gabi informs me I could have a copy flown down from Windhoek if I am unable to source it in the bookshops. Any advice? See your dad regularly at the Sea Point pavillion where he swims in the morning. He is in great shape and enjoying life to the full. I enjoy our chats in the mornings when we mostly reminise about the old days at O/M.
Best wishes and kind regards.

Hi Gordon - I got my book from a german book shop in Windhoek, Luderitz also get then in now and then. A lady by the name of Gloudina Brandt from ore reserves Omund is collecting order for Oranjemund. My dad tells me he see you at the pavillon often. If you don`t come right with the book let me know and I will organise you one. It is a must.

Thanks very much Clint. Much appreciated. Trying a few more bookshops today. If unsuccessful may well take up your kind offer. Will let you know one way or another on or about Wednesday. Saw your dad again today. He looks fit as a fiddle. A good man. I thoroughly enjoy his company, reminiscing with and chatting about the 'old' days. We both enjoyed our stay at O/M. Think you might have been in Jean's class at school were you not? Seem to remember Jean mentioning it at some point in time. Will be in touch soon.
Kindest regards
Gordon.

Don't recall Clint being in any of my classes, but somewhere on this site (under Jean Browns OPS photos), I posted a picture of Clint (and others) at one of my parties.

This book is in the Oranjemund Library and I have just started to read it and can vouch that if you are interested in the historical aspect of diamond mining, then this book is well worth the purchase.........

I will need more that 2 weeks to read it though, but awesome pictures and I never realised that there were so many individual diamond mining towns that have long since gone......
