That's a typical om grid for braaing. Remember that well. Would last 100 years and withstand an atomic war.
Oil drum cut in half with an angle grinder did the trick perfectly!
iknow
We had the same. We only braaid once a week. Mostly on a sunday. Nowadays I'd love to braai about 3 or 4 times a week. But I think my kids would make big steaks out of me if I did. haha
Wonder how many Omunders still in town use those half drum braai's. I remember my Dad's and Uncle Jerry's well. They could hold stacks of wood for massive fires and tons of coals.
Those half drums get used all over SA, but I have never seen those braai grids anywhere here but in OM.
would you bealive there is a place here in durban that is selling them for R299 each
drums or grids?
idontknow
Hi Michael.
Do you actualy braai at the Spar all day too?

There are many Camel men out there. (Figure of speech)
Are they hairy?
not always
sounds like you've got one barb
They aren't always hairy but they all have a hump in the front. (No its not what you think, or I think for that matter) I meant the hump in which the water is stored, I mean beer is stored. That still doesn't sound right!! OK, the boep where the beer is stored.
Georg, I say men who go bald have allowed their wives to sit on their heads to much. The hair rubbed off.
Florrie :emot19: , you make me laugh.....
I like that

Guten Appetit!
Just to spite me you can have it George jr faceinfood feedme :buffo1:
feedme and just to spite you some more - I lit a moerse fire earlier and now I'm going to braai a steak (with a nice fat strip on it) about 3cm thick and wash it down with my Windhoek. With that I'm having a spud with the thickkest cheddar cheese sauce you can think of............. and some green salad with fresh herbs straight out the garden.
Aint this what this topic is all about: my braaimeat??

cookin
if i may intervene - i believe that is a ribeye steak, a cut of meat i discovered in UK, the best most succulent flavourful steak ever. The lines of fat and the eye of fat ib center just dissolve into meat and add yummyness........
No! No! No! .... you guys have got it all wrong..... here is the steak I shall be putting on the braai 2morrow!
braai
@Mike
That looks a nice piece of meat
We spoke about prices the other day on skype.
In my O_M days 1kg of prime meat was about Rand 2,00 .............. the Rand is gone to sh...........
When i arrived in SA 1 Rand was worth DM 5.60 = € 2,80 = 28 Rand today
Today € 2,80 is about 28,00 Rand
Looking at the piece you show, it seems the prices in NAM are as high as in Europe. The UK is still more expensive
Here a piece i bought yesterday its about 660 gr at 6,6 € = 66 Rand
See the price and weight, 1 kg about 10 € = 100 Rand
How does that compaire ?????
Its Beef to be made as a roast with gravy etc and potatoe dumplings, served with salad or veg
Roast Beef in Oranjemund.... N$ 62.95 / kg (N$ = R)
I took my camera to the butchery for interest sakes...it's amazing the moment that you produce a camera, they all want to be in it...
So... Is that 6.2 Euro's per kg for Oranjemund?

Hi Michael.

This steak is what we call "Gammellfleisch". Believe it or not, but there was plenty of meet on the german market this year, that was a couple vof years old. All they did was freeze, refill and new date. That was real cheap meat... cl1
Brushing your teeth before or after never helped.
