Where you Sandy...have you evacuated? Quite right you were when you said you smelt smoke at 9.30 last nite.
I hear this morning that Devils Peak is on fire. Apparently started at Rhodes Memorial by vagrants or a cigggie being tossed away.Let us know whats up and if its effected you. I could still see great bellows of smoke from Table View this morning.
Does Sandy live near there?
Yes, started by vagrants - the male died in ICU today, and his partner is still in hospital. Tragedy can strike so quickly, not only for the humans, but also our beautiful mountain with many UNIQUE species.
Nah, Rhona, methinks Sandy is safe, he just has a good nose and slept down wind!
What a shame.....i see the area before my eyes, saw it burning some years back flying in from PE, only smoke and burned plants.....the beautiful cape.....
Dadswa, I have photos of the burning mountain but I'm unable to attach them...if I send them to you would you mind putting them online plse?
Yes of course, send them to my email adress as attachment. dont edit, i do if necessary...

I wasn't sure if the fire had swept around to the University Estate side of Devils Peak, near where Sandy is.Apparently not.
Thanx Julie and trusty Daddy G. Great (but sad) pics.
Thankfully there's a fine mist rain around here at the moment, hope it stifles the fires and prevent them from flaring up again tonight.
Hello1 Hello1 Hello1 Sandy....... cat3
Hi All,
These photo's remind us both of the terrible fires that ravaged the Helderberg Mountains and surrounding area since early Feb. We could look out of our windows and see the flames at night especially around Sir Lowrys Pass area. As said, a spectacular sight to see but devastating to those directly affected
All fine here ,, was only online late last night ... had dinner guests the last being shoehorned out of door at 01:00 head a bit hammer today .. yes its quite a sight .. standing on the upstairs deck I just saw cinders flying overhead . and yes thick smoke .. my home smells like a kaya now .. my car smells like a kaya .. all my clothing has this smoky aroma and we getting a constant settling of ash .. even ash getting into house .. still smouldering away in spots seen it coming back from gym tonight ... fire tenders parked at top of hospital hill ....
