An old timer mentioned Konyntjie Dorp in Oranjemund, I think somewhere in the depths of this forum it might have been mentioned before, but anyhow, who remembers Konyntjie dorp and who of you stayed there?
idontknow

I did..... in E32/8th Ave.. When that block was built it got the name Konyntjie dorp.. Dont know why... just know. My dad was on the building side remeber. That was the last block next to the 8th ave trees on the one side and the fuffy slide on the other end.
Did I live in a different Oranjemund or what? I've never heard of Konyntjie. Can you show us on an aerial map where this is pls
It had to do with the bigger houses to accomodate the larger family ,, more kids ... konyntjie ...
Sandy and as you know... I am one of 6 children...
I've also never heard of this.......and I was 1 of 5 children.
Diana, did your parents use the pondok as a spare room or what image201
My brothers had a pondok... dont want to know what they used it for as they were Appie... ha ha
I knew it as "KONYNTJIE-VLEI" - houses started east of the road leading from the abattoir down to 5th avenue. For instance, in 11th avenue it would be from E13/11 towards the east (higher numbers)
We (Lineker) stayed there.... E25/8th ave
I think I know it as the area of 4 bedroomed houses. Never heard the other name propably because everyone in our house would never be able to pronounce it..
If its the 4 bedroom houses.......I LIVED THERE. Although I never knew it.
grab(1) I'm a Konyntjier...so are you Alfred.
Last house I stayed in in OMD was E15/12. Does that fall into konyntjie dorp?
That all depends on if there were any Konyntjie tree's in the garden.....

HElloooooo Gerda I'm here..... grab(1) pick me... pick me......
We lived in Konyntjie Dorp at E24/11 with the van Eeden family next door. I was 1 of 5. I remember when they were building it and we used to take the creosote planks used for fencing and build the most elaborate dens - double-storeyed one nogal.
The builders (Rumbles) were great and only broke them down when they absolutely had to. Amazing considering it was a construction site we were playing in!
Cherry... i remember your name... yes we all had fun playing in and around the new houses that my dad (rumbels) were building... Hi Diana !!
My aunt Flora Fry stayed inE4 -4TH and she called it the Rabbit Hutches.
