I heard yesterday that the contracted catering Company, Sodexho, that runs the Central Kitchen and the local mess, including the Flamingo's restaurant, called in about 60 workers, without any negotiations, handed them all a letter informing that with immediate affect they had been retrenched..... Some of the more senior staff members were shocked and unprepared for this news, having kids at school (OPS) and bills to pay.....
I understand that retrenchment would have to happen, however, there is a right way to inform your workforce, with procedures being followed......
:wow1:
Too true .. the writing must have been on the wall for a while .. so they could and should have already slowly shed excess numbers not that thats pleasant either but its just not such a shockwave .. the unfortunate thing is in order to keep the core company afloat this has to be done ...
I worked for Sodexho and the contract that one signs with them statted that one's employment with them is subject to change depending on the contract that they get or have with Namded, so if Namdeb was down scaling then they should have started looking elswhere for employment or move knowing that their jobs were on the line. Glad I moved when I did. People wake up and smell the coffee, don't wait untill you get booted out and then say :wow1: what happened!
notfair
Paula .. sadly so .. so many people sign contracts , barely reading or getting to understand them .. or choose to ignore ... harsh fact in life are the realities that they sometimes choose to ignore .. my current battle with staff is the Me Me syndrome .. forgetting the bad times we survived and pulled through .. the good times when we creamed it and got bonus .. the times we worked our butts off on low margin work and got no bonus .. its all market related , and they dont normally think beyond their immediate situation .. .. but yes despite the contract .. I beleive sodhexo management if they were wide awake or at least to use the cliche word that I hate when it comes from the wrong mouths of " proactive " would have seen the writing on the wall many months ago and started preparing people for it vis meetings talking sharing the companies difficulties .. .. we doing it all the time .. it tends to make it easier than the sudden shock .. also any new appointments as we doing at the moment shrt term 3 months at a time .. blah blah .. still not nice or easy on anybody ...

Sad, but too true.
