Title: The Rape Of Oranjemund!
Post by: Michael Alexander on April 04, 2009, 06:47:06 AM
I hear the rumours, People told me the tales....

Oranjemund Spar, rents a company house from OTMCO (Namdeb), we are in the process of returning one of the houses back to the company and our employee had been out of the house two weeks already, he moved to a bigger house...anyhow, he returned to the old house this morning, with a domestic to wash the walls before returning the building to the mine....

There was a hole before him, right through a  window, the keys that were inside the doors, were gone, the internal doors of the house were missing and the light fittings were stripped, the house had been violated........

Now I had heard these tales about the empty dwellings being broken into and the fittings and doors being removed...I even heard of a tale last week, where an entire bath was recovered on a vehicle leaving town......

I also believe that the OTMCO brains trust are aware of the problem, yet as the mines assets get taken out of town , no action is forthcoming, are all the vehicles leaving town being searched, are people being apprehended?

Who are these people? I heard of an individual who had moved house, while in transit overnight he stayed in his new house, meanwhile the criminal fraternity broke into his old home and stole N$ 16 000 worth of tools......

What has become of our safe haven?

SOrry, I just had to post again, this is pissing me off....

If the company had listened to us two years ago, they could have had pensioners renting those houses by now.......

Earning income from their assets...

Contributing to the local economy....a non DeBeers source of income at that.....

And the standards of their homes being maintained....

...I heard that this morning, somebody spotted a pillar of smoke rising form a garden in town..... he went and peered over the fence, an inhabitant of the home had decided to burn their leaves ..... but built the leaf pile next to a tree, the falmes were licking at the tree....

My friend went to the house, knocked on the door, the father stumbled to the door after working nightshift..... muttered that it must have been his wife.......

This was a policeman's home......

Who is to set an example..... because those that led by example have long left this oasis....

Will try and let powers that be know whats going on. Unfortunately my other half is away till Sunday but I think that it is disgusting. Was behind all the buses and vehicles this week and saw a huge amount of luggage but did not see any baths I must admit. Am sure Pete is monitoring this aswell.Until we know all the facts lets not jump to conclusions just yet please....... Besides which there are telephone numbers that you can phone to report this kind of thing. Lets be proactive and not destuctive.

Too treu  .. report .. make noise .. we eventually succeeded in forcing the owner of a once beautiful   victorian double story that he let  go to rot  sell it ..  but  may I say  somtimes things require persistence .. strange  how entities like town councils  seem to get  so wrapped  up in red tape  that  they  effectively neutered ..  I  wore my keyboard out  with letters   to mayor   nespapers etc ,,  that apart from the odd brick  with  a note attached  thrown into   the owners other  pristine home ..   now  we  watch and see what the new owner will do ..  if he bought it  he must have the will and the pots of money to  restore it to its original  ....     cuqui   ... and  if not  then  grrr      policedog-small  ....

I heard from a customer, how a chap in 7th avenue heard banging coming from the empty house next door to him, when he went out to investigate, he found a taxi reversed into the yard, with a few chaps hammering away at the window frames of a pondok....... as he approached, they all jumped into the taxi and fled...

The same source also reported seeing a Yellow Transnamib container being loaded with fence split poles.... good chance of this being company property...

IThe yellow transnamib containers are the cheap alternative to the small man who is leaving town..... these days you can find them scattered all over the town..... I shudder to think how much stolen company property is leaving oranjemund this way....

202  enjoyed that.
I do agree Skinny...be proactive not distructive.
I have not been back in about 18yrs and somehow can't imagine Taxi's in O'mund never mind the "crime" you guys have spoken about. Sounds more like Cape Town or Jo'burg.
You do mean Taxi's like in combi's with crazy drivers like we have.

Update.....

Heard from a neighbour, that the one of the guys in the Taxi were ID's...it seems NAMPOL are also looking for this chap for a case of Identity theft.....

seems like a mini gang doing the cleaning up in this town....

No Diana, they are little cars like mom's, Taxi sign's on the roof and they don't have 2nd, 3rd or 4th gear that work they crawl arround irritating the shit out of people driving behind them

Diana, like Alfred said, a lot of the vehicles are old vehicles and some have the Taxi Sign in the boot, taken out in the morning, dusted off placed on the roof dor the day while they go looking for customers. So I am sure some are not even registered as taxi's

Something Stinks.....and I am sure that what I am about to say will land me in hot water...but one cannot keep quiet.... so I will phrase this a little different and hope that you have the intelligence to read between the lines..

Once apon a time, there was a village in a remote location, lets call it Kleinzeemund...it was owned by a rich company called De Wets.... anyhow, De Wets was into coal mining and established a subsidiary company called KMVMCO to manage their little village.......

Now I have heard this tale surface three times in the last few months...... An individual in charge of the dept for allocating Village homes and business premises is demanding a 10 % personal fee or shares in any business that wish's to be established in the village.....The chieftan of the KMVMCO, who actually hailed from another neighbouring village , does not seem to be aware of this employees actions.....

As for the theft of the village doors and fittings, the chieftan just shrugged his shoulders and claims it's difficult to apprehend any culprits as the Coal Mining company had an auction recently and similar items were sold.....In affect, there is no solution....

Now this little village is so unique, it only has one way in and one way out...... with a knight at the gates..... why does'nt the chieftan just send some more knights to search all the wagons and if they find suspicious items like doors and drawbridges that are missing in the villages, demand to see paperwork for the said items..... I don't think the Chieftan cares about the village anymore...coz it's not his home village.......

I hope a more powerful chieftan decides to investigate this.....

Just heard about another "old" Oranejemund family who were moving houses in Omund overnight, there old home got broken into and a number of items were stolen, the padlocks had been cut open....

One wonders if there is an insider who is perhaps informing the criminal element of people who are relocating in the town....

On another note, the fax machine no longer works at the police station..... so people are being told to fax paperwork through to the Ministry of Mines and Energy....but this Ministry is complaining that the police must stop telling the people to use the Ministry fax machine as they are running out of ink.....

Sigh! I wonder were my Tax money is going to?

are-you-there

They also tried to beak into my house. Cut a circle in the glass with glass cutter, left the glass on the grass. Don't know if dogs disturbed them as have a visiting labrador (my son's) and he does not like strangers....... But what worries me as they obviously thought no one was at home as my car was not there, My other half out of town and youngest son out on the town painting it red, so I was home alone!!!! Somebody is watching....... Going to get a big  BoomSmilie_anim and give them  thumper if they try that again.

I hope these are isolated cases of course as most ex O'munders probably would wish.  Hope also that the people governing O/M will reflect on this one day and judge whether they acted as villaines or heros.

Mmh! Seems Like a Pretty senior Chieftan has read something, I believe (from 2 sources) , that a mine wide brief went out to employees (those that are still working) , informing the population, that with immediate effect, all Advance Removal Trucks and Containers leaving Oranjemund are liable to be searched by security prior to exiting Oranjemund... All people leaving town need to contact OTMCO to have their goods inspected  before departure...

I don't have a copy of the brief.... but I believe that even gas cylinders were being shipped out.....

A little too late, perhaps..... I guess this whole fiasco goes to show what caliber of people were residing in Oranjemund..... it's good that they have left...we never needed them......

I believe the person who is missing their trailer that was nicked from their garden overnight, should enquire about a red bakkie with a Windhoek registration heading towards Grunau towing an OR registered trailer sometime last week...... I have a person who can give a better description.. of the said red bakkkie....

Here is a copy of the brief:

"PILFERAGE OF COMPANY PROPERTY

It has come to our attention that company property is being removed illegally and loaded onto various modes of transport leaving town. Items such as gas cylinders, stoves, beds, fridges and even doors have been removed and taken out.

As a consequence, with effect from today (06 April 2009) all Advance Transport vehicles and Containers (TransNamib) are to be cleared by OTM Co before leaving town. All persons who are planning to remove their belongings by containers and Advance Transport should contact Mr. Mackay Shalako on 235253 or 0814077227 to arrange for the clearance process. Goods not cleared will not be allowed out without a search, therefore in order to avoid the inconvenience of being delayed and searched at the gate please arrange for clearance at the place of loading.

Hi all

I'm sitting here in London reading all this.  Just arrived two days ago and will be in Europe for 6 weeks before hitting SA and Namibia and of course Oranjemund.  Couldnt be more of a contrast between Africa and Europe.  You all know what I mean.

Oranjemund?  It's now experiencing what happens when theres an erosion of what is called social consciousness. This is when the traditional community values break down due to high unemployment, over population, depletion of resources (sound familiar?), outdated laws, lack of oppportunity, etc, etc, etc.

Even just the loss of pride due to the losing a job can unbalance this so-called 'social control' which consists of all the bits of this broad concepts that make up a complex, modern society.

A break-down of law and order as well as infrastructure are a few of the first symptoms.  Then its becomes 'every man for himself'.

Sadly this seems to be happening in Oranjemund - unthinkable just a few months ago.

Malcolm.

I see in town that the 'better' houses are not staying empty for very long. The houses are being invaded by people driving cars with license plates that end with only R. Wonder why the 'patty' of the Namibian hamburger gets preference. For those who do not know the hamburger story. It does not matter who rule Namibia, they stay in the middle.
Other persons who want to move from house are not allowed. Why? Do you need to pay rent when you work for Namdeb?
I do not work for Namdeb, paying rent, but do not have a lease contract. I was hardegat and stop paying my rent trying to force a contract. So when on holiday to my kids, the electricity was cut to the house.
I had to pay for blocked drains and other things, the past year. OTM Co take my money, but there is no lease agreement. Now that's raping.
