Here's a nice piece of mining history.....
"Hello Michael
I am Ian Keet, the Managing Director of Roan Mining Equipment, a company
that has been doing business with Namdeb / CDM since my father started the
company in 1969. We have been the EnviroTech pump agents since that time and
I was going through some old photographs which I found in the company photo
album and decided that they would be worth scanning in and mailing to
yourself.
The photographs, taken by my father long before my time and probably around
the 1975 period are of the second jetty which was built at 3 Plant in order
to get sea water to the plant. At the time, there were apparently Sangus
vertical pump installed at the end of the jetty but they were giving trouble
and / or insufficient water. My father, Boet Keet was asked to come up with
a quick solution in order to solve the problem so he suggested that a couple
of EnviroTech 14 x 12 'D' Frame slurry pumps be hung under the jetty. This
was duly done and that solved the water problem even though the pumps were
continually wet from sea spray as the sea relentlessly pounded the end of
the jetty !
This jetty is now no longer jutting out to sea as the beach has been
accreted but towards the end of last year I went down to the jetty for
interest sake and found that portions of the steel frame on which the pumps
stood are still visible to this day.
Hope this info is of some interest.
Cheers
Ian

Photos of 3plt jetty those days
That is great memories, i spent many hrs on that project always a headache
I thought that the idea with the pumps hanging under the jetty came from 3 plant staff....Once they were installed we had enough water, great idea and sucessfull
Very interesting and brings back wonderful memories. Many thanks for that piece of information and great pictures.
Saw this crane in the scrap yard, never new where they used it, these photo's explain everything
Thanks
I wonder how much this project cost back in the day and what that value would be in todays terms?
Its cost more than it should have.
There's two jettys there.........
