Title: Civil engineering - a masterpiece ..
Post by: SandyB on April 19, 2009, 06:38:20 AM
I have  been observing  the work done daily on the  new hospital  hill interchanges .. Truly  fascinating .. the amount of planning  that has gone into this  work ,,  never  ever really have I seen any  inconvenience caused to traffic flow , maybe the odd  closure  on a Sat night   to do work that could not otherwise be done .. and yes  some sections a bit squigly  and narrower .... they build  overhead frameworks , suspend  and then build their shuttering framework on that  frame  .. do their casting  ... framework dismantled and viola !  a new  section  over the highway appears ...   went out and  took some pics while roads quieter .. excuse the  blur .. it was cold and raining , brr  shiver ..and i took the one while driving ...

Nice pics SandyB; took a slow drive last night to appreciate the work after we chatted about it - awesome stuff! I still don't get how they have moved so fast and he N2 has taken 5 years and counting!

Well I been watching in amazement the last week ,, meant  to take day by day progress but kept on leaving my camera behind at work ...  the complete overhead scaffold and frame for them to now  continue with shutterwork .. and yes no disasters .. each night they would close  the road at 11:00 till 05:00  diverting over dewaal drive ... here the masterpiece .. the  two bridges now connected ..
1. coming from southern suburbs
2. from woodstock side  heading  outwards
3. same but closer ..

... and just down the road the new Greenpoint stadium, looked impressive on Carte Blanche on Sunday, don't know how wise it is to have all those glass sheets up there....
