Title: Aircraft lightning Strike!

I am in the aviation game and were sent recently 3 photos of a lightning strike on an aircraft in the states ,my son asked me a few months ago and I think these picture best illustrate the effects :nono1:

Oh my!  I thought maybe one day soon I will be able to go visit the Ruf's in Germany....
Wonder how long it will take me if I drive there in my BAKKIE?  Because I'm definitely not climbing in one of those metal birds soon!!!!!

In 1967 they had a race between the Windsor Castle and a car starting the same time in Europe, the car arrived in CT before the ship...... ( about 10-12 days)

But dont ask how much logistic was behind that. Good driving and no problems on the way will take minimum 3-4 weeks,  23_146_26
so you better climb in that metal machine, its less risk then going by car and only takes about 11 hrs.

That must have been a monster strike .. cos apparently  its not  supposed to happen like that ... must have been in the direct path of an earthward strike ..  that hole would surely have meant decompression  and an emergency situation ??

What would have happened if that strike had hit the tail or an engine....?

 idontknow I must agree with Sandy on this one. Theoretically it's a bit difficult to comprehend how this could happen to a plane in flight.

Then again, maybe it was parked on the ground when the strike occurred???

Maybe Billy can dig up some info for us on the incident...

This fascinated me, so I did a bit of research..... not a lightning strike, but an electrical fire...good call sandy...

An electrical fire makes more sense as the hole looks like its just in front of the main avionics bays aft of the pilot,good call ,I shall inform the numphty   :emot19_2: who sent me the email to get his facts straight next time as the sleuths in " O " will suss him out
