I well remember writing that piece. I think it appeared in the Windhoek Advertiser. And nope, the riders were all Ovambos. Oranjemund was enclosed in the diamond area in those days and the coloured folk at Beauvallon were not permitted to cross the bridge.
Polly (Pollard) the farm manager, was regarded as senior staff. As such he had security clearance.
