It's sad to stand down at the pan these days and remember how the folks raced that pan in the howling winds...

That  damm wind .. me and Robin  took one of the rowing boats out one day ..  It was  so  lekker rowing outwards . as kids we had not yet fathomed the concept of  if its easy  on the outward bound it will be hard on the  return .. well  we  rowed   on  return   and got nowhere .. one pull of oars was negated by the wind .. we took turns and  eventually gave  up let the wind take us   to shore .. abandoned  boat  and scooted home hoping nobody would remeber  who had taken out  that particular boat that day ..
And yes  John and Lei ..  as  your message crossed mine .. all those names  ringing bells ..

Ah, the Pink Pan ... what an amazing place it was. We spent all our weekends there having a jol while our parents sailed away leaving us kids to wonder freely ... image031
