We have been told that Debmar is definitely shutting down for about 3 months. The ships start leaving on the 12th of July. The airport will be closed for about 3 weeks in that time to resurface the runway so Air Nam won't be able to get in and out. The helicopters will still be on standby and the PIA on the SA side will still be around but things will be quiet on this side.
I know one of the skippers of the De Beers Ships and spoke to hom this morning. He read me the schedule of the ships active off the coast at Oranjemund. The ships are all coming to St Helena harbour for maintenance at the beginning of July and will be back at sea at the end September.
According to him these ships use about 28 000 litres of diesel per day and from July onwards, when sea conditions deteriorates, they use even more. Hence them being pulled in for maintenance from July till September.
Thanks Sean and Sigmund...... facts!!!!
