Title: Shimmering Triangles
Post by: Mike Voden (RIP) on August 10, 2009, 09:14:45 AM
Whilst walking on the Strand beach yesterday, my attention was brought to the increasing numbers of shimmering or revolving reflective triangles that are being put on roof tops, especially "high rise" buildings. The recently finished monstrosity or The Hibernan Towers block of flats as it is called is a prime example as there are numerous of these moving reflectors situated on the various levels of the buildng.

I know that these reflectors have been in use for some time in the Cape Town area and no doubt other areas as well but what is their exact use I ask?

The only thought I can come up with, is that they could be bird deterents.

Has anyone else any suggestions.............?????????

Hi Mike V, We had a few at breweries in Newlands. They are supposed to be bird deterrents but the birds get used to them and then sit on them like around about and go to sleep.

@Chris, are you sure it was not the fumes from the beer that made them there birds go to sleep?

Hi Chris, thanks for your input, that is what I thought they were there for.

At least you came up with a sensible reply, not like the replies from that son in law of mine......

I am sorry but I have to agree with Mike A and Alfred.  Why?  You also have a moving reflector/dome when you are walking on the beach, maybe to scare off "birds"?

 ha ha

Mike!!........... I think its very rude of this younger generation to question their seniors intellect to a perfectly innocent inquiry about anti bird devices and to infer its your pate that is a reflective device.

For your son in law to be given away 'free coke' what is the world coming too !! Remember this young uns !! Grass 202 don't grow on busy streets................... image04

Frank, thank you for your support and as you say it was a genuine question.

As to my son in law, I know that someday he will come begging for help (remember the drill Mike ?)

Nada & Alfie...........??????????? I'll put it down to their little minds but I thought I taught Alfie to respect his elders

Anyway, to the rest of you out there, my "chrome dome" is normally covered when walking on the beach  image18  rooster

secret(1)  The only reason why you wear a cap on  your chrome dome, is because the folk over at Cape Town International asked you .,,,, due to some flights mistaking your chrome dome for a runway landing light.....

Mike (5) V... I'm keeping check on "young" Alfred here for you... Don't worry, I give him a hard enough time already... I'll just pop another little jab in there for you, while he's not watching, then run like #@$!...

I thought them shiny things had something to do with radar reflection for airplanes etc.

And how dare anyone insult Mike's solar panel...

Andy D, Yes please, keep the peg leg in check for me. You don't have to run too hard from him, last time I saw him he was far too overweight.............

I know, it's disgusting the way I'm being treated about my wide parting but the shoulders are big enough   ape

Mike!!! I noticed this incident happen to you whilst walking nonchalantly on the beach!!

I too had an experience on the beach whilst walking our faithful friend "Ben" our dog.

Stopping to pass the time of day away with another sole who had with him his faithful friend a collie dog.

As we chatted I had this warm feeling on my leg, and yes the collie had mistook my leg for a post and proceeded to relieve himself.

Well I ask you!!

Do these things happen for a reason, or are we just in the wrong place...........Beaches are scary places.........Beware of retires........ cuqui... image04

Luckily we don't have a dog and the Strand beach is supposed to be dog free but don't you believe it.

Next time I'm walking on the beach, I'll look out to sea and make no comments on this forum at all

Michael! Behave yourself now, you'll give our generation a name of disrespect for the senior citizens of our time...  You don't want them coming back to haunt us later.

THANKS ANDY D for your never ending support..............!!!!!!!!!!!

I know how to stop that son in law of mine, I'll ask him to return my missing drill (I bet he thought I was going to say missing daughter).

Actually, for a man of his age, I thought he might have acted a little better
