Title: Who Locked the Airport?
Post by: Michael Alexander on August 21, 2009, 11:44:52 AM
Starting to hear an interesting tale, about how locks were broken off gates down at the airport this morning. It would appear that "somebody "forgot to inform "somebody" that the President of the Republic of Namibia would be leaving our little desert town early this morning..... and that the entire airport was still locked up and closed when he wanted to depart from the Sperrgebiedt!

Mmmh! Protocol and hospitality are heading for a showdown!

From The Namibian:

"
PRESIDENT Hifikepunye Pohamba, who attended the launch of the Boundless Southern Africa tourism route at Oranjemund on Thursday, almost didn't make it back to Windhoek on time.

When the President and his entourage arrived at the Oranjemund airstrip early on Friday morning, they found the gates locked.
The President was running late, and he was not amused. His protocol officers couldn't find anybody to unlock the gate, and had to resort to brute force – they broke a padlock to gain entry.
Namdeb spokesperson Hilifa Mbako said the incident was the result of a minor miscommunication between the airport staff and the President's protocol officers. "
