Doug Hopwood (1960-1965) experienced Springbok no 8 who were seen by some as a possible captain for the 1965 team. Hopwood played his entire career (22 tests) with a chronic back injury. His back injury prevented him form playing for large portions of the 65 tour.

Oh dear!  -10 Karma points to you Mike. You forgot to address him correctly.

He is "His Holiness The Most Bestest of The Best Number Eights, the one the only MR Doug Hopwood".

Also, a Wynberg Boys old boy!

Im not a Rugby fan,but back in 1966 I was working at ISCOR in Pretoria and my partner was a Springbok, his last name was Pitzner
or something like that, they treated him like a Rock star back then. They had just returned from the UK and the only team to beat them was Scotland.I know his first name was a Africaan name and phonetically it sounded like Heighst.

Gys Pitzer was a hooker in one of the strongest "Bok" teams we ever had. He toured South America with the SA Gazelles in 1966 and played his first game for the Springboks against France in Durban on the 15th of July 1967 (eventually playing in 12 tests, the last one in 1969). I hope that helps!
