Oranjemund is a special town, because ...
woo_hoo
.....without a shadow of a doubt - it's the people that make O'mund........where else in the world would you find friends that last an absolute life-time........even people you have never met are true friends 3d smiles(281)
For an Irish lass, well said Rhona...............!!!!!!!!!!!! I totally agree with you........
Spot on, Pops Mike and Rhona! Oranjemund will always be a part of my life that I miss dearly. The people/friends and whole community was really special as a kid growing up there, and then of course the unique safety, rugged beauty, close to nature... pure bliss.

OK I thought this Topic would be quite active..............................770 members 5 responses............ well whats special about living in a town cut off from the rest of the World that's in the 60/70.
Just to say you lived there!!........... even if it was for a short period, there are not many places around the world were you can tell the kids to bugger of in the garden............ and by the way if you find a diamond or two..........bring it here to daddy.
How many out there actual handled a diamond !! or two, very rare indeed.............ORANJEMUND ...........yes special.........I am sounding like Golem from the Hobbit Precious image04
What can I say ? You all are special and unique....
On Friday this girl Rozanne Fichard walks into ICU to come look for me. She has heard from a friend of hers in Mali about Boet and they have started a prayer group for him. I don't know her from Adam's side... we started chatting and what do we find out?
Rozanne is an ex Oranjemunder ! She left there 3 years ago.... and here we meet in these circumstanses ! Is it not amazing - this connection we have?!
I told her about the site and Forum, so hopefully she will log in and register.
HOORAY !!!
Like we say..... the people !!
Quite amazing.......Oranjemund IS a very special place. When you say Oranjemund to anybody else that has lived there no matter that you may not have lived there at the same time you just bossom buddies.
Quite something that I don't think any other place in the world has.
Oranjemund must have been "home" to more people from and to a wider variety of locations (even nations) than any other town of its size, population average and time of existance... only 70 something years...!
As Diana said, the mere fact that you lived here is already a connection that can leave you chatting to an "absolute stranger" for ages.
There are many folk who have left OMD, didn't know eachother whilst here, yet have come to know eachother well beyond their time in OMD.
Absolutely amazing!
You can take the person away from Oranjemund, but you can never take Oranjemund out of the person. I rest my case 23_11_61
