Title: The Tree's are Dying!
Post by: Michael Alexander on October 14, 2009, 11:32:53 AM
It always amazed me, the variety of tree;s that we have in this desert town of ours..... some still standing after 50 years in the Namib.......

Here are a few that caught my eye today, alas, they will not be green for much longer....... for these tree's are all in empty gardens.......

Concerned folk get out the long hoses ...  nobody paying for water yet .. so  spend  some time .. Life in O'mund is generally more liesurelly so  a bit of time spent  can  help ...  once gone the trees are  irreplacable ..  an  asset of beauty  laid to waste .. let OTCMO  see  this and  shame them into doing something ...

Better so  Mike  post  on the notice board  at Spar  with some pictures  of living  and  dying gardens ,, ...  ask concerned citizens to  come forward and   help  stem this tide of neglect that might turn O'mund  into yet another dustbowl town , scandal considering  you have a river with water  and a working  water supply  ... a  concerned  grouping  doing the  keep O'mund green thing .. if not anything  it will draw attention to the situation ...

The house next door to me is also empty, when Johan moved in about 20 months ago, it was the only house on the street without any grass out front, Johan took the time and effort to plant grass and three wee palm tree;s...... about 4 months ago, he too left Omund after spending 28 years here.......

When I water my lawn outside my fence, a mere 8m away, lies Johan's lawn, fading away in the afternoon sun, the palms a wilting......

Guess what i intend doing this weekend.....

Lengthening that hosepipe........

Good  on  yer  Michael ,,,  I know  it  sounds lofty me suggesting here from the  safe  situation I have here in CT , but yes  we as a community here in woodstock  do a lot ourselves ,, and if we dont  have the time  then we contribute cash  eg the lane cleanups ... Take  my suggestion  of the notice in Spar ... one never knows what it might mobilise .??

Good Call Sandy, However with the utmost respect, with the caliber of people living in Omund these days... it will be highly unlikely that we would solicit a response.....

Do it anyway .. dont give  the effort  you have put  into   your concern voiced on the site ... at least  you know you have  made the effort  to attract attention  to the decay ...

@Gerda, OTMCO has always watered this park, as it is on the main road through town, I just took the snap cos, it looked (and felt) so nice.....

I do however notice that the park up near the abattoir is no longer being watered, must get up there and take a pic before it turns to sand......
