Title: Latest on the proclamation?
Post by: Sean on November 06, 2009, 06:28:35 AM
So there I was, leaning against the water cooler, minding my own business and humming quietly to myself when I hear a rumour about proclamation of the town happening in the very near future.....

So I drift into the office, throw this out there for comments, and wander back to the cooler.....

hmmmm mmm mmmmm..........

Thanks for the inside scoop Homer...... I heard that the politicians are now saying in March 2010....

But I say, Nay! Never, not until 2020...... The reason being , is that the politicians keep telling us every 9 months, proclamation is going to happen, this deadline gets passed and nothing happens...this interesting event has been happening already for 6 years.....

DeBeers owns the right to the area until 2020.... they have diamonds to be mined..... and if the gov wants to force them to accept proclamation, They will be taken to court and the whole affair will drag on till 2020.....

So in conclusion , according to me...... Not again......

Just my 2 cents....

Have there been any decisions made about whats going to happen to Kleinzee?

That could be an interesting indication about what the long term future of Oranjemund might be.

I was told by a prominent person that DeBeers are still maintaining Kleinzee..... ie. watering the Golf Course, due to the fact that if the town deterioated it would not be easy to sell the place to one buyer.......

Just what I heard...... but it does make sense.,.....

Latest from todays Namibian, Link: http://www.namibian.com.na/news-articles/national/full-story/archive/2010/march/article/oranjemund-proclamation-takes-longer-than-expected/

"PLANS to proclaim Oranjemund a town have been delayed and will only happen earliest in June.

The town, privately owned by the Namdeb diamond-mining company, was supposed to be proclaimed last month, but because some outstanding issues were still being ironed out, the matter was deferred to June, says Erastus Negonga, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Regional and Local Government and Housing.
Negonga said consultations were continuing about the proclamation of town land and an access road linking Oranjemund with Rosh Pinah.
"These are critical fundamental aspects that need to be dealt with, and we expect to have all outstanding issues resolved by June," he said.
The town land needs to be excised from Namdeb's mining licence for the planned proclamation to proceed, and without an access road talk of proclamation is futile, Negonga said.
Negonga said significant progress had been made to have the mining town proclaimed within the set time despite the outstanding critical aspects.
"I am encouraged by the dedication and commitment shown by key role players to meet the deadlines," the Permanent Secretary remarked.
Furthermore, Negonga noted that there is a Cabinet directive to speed up the implementation of Oranjemund's proclamation.
The directive is aimed at having Oranjemund residents participate in the upcoming Local Authority elections scheduled for November, said Negonga. "

I think a lot of locals ain't gonna be too happy when they see thay have to start to pay for water and Lights......

I wonder if I will be allowed to  mine for diamonds under my house ?

I wonder how long it will be before the local authority become bankrupt and then we will see the green lawns and tree's dying ........

... and yes! I am entitled to my own opinion.......

Wonder how they going to measure the power and water consumption.
The pipes and  power cables are a mess in this town.
