Bobby Smith FROM Mavis
Like wise Sandy, liked the to photographs and the beach shot of the 70s.
I now relies I left out a few in my "Teenagers of my time". Keep posting them.
I had a long chat with Bobby via Skype today and had a drink, while talking about the old days.
This webpage has really made the world much smaller.
Cheers
Richard
We all have a bit to give no mater how small or big .. .. the total will make up the memories of our special childhood ..
Some more unearthed .. I remember the camera I had it was an Agfa .. A pic of Owen and Robin Holland and Scampy my dawg ... I have added a pic of Auntie Daphne I took I was very fond of her ..
The Schmidts that stayed down the road in 2nd avenue .. aftre they left the Brooks family moved into the same house ... they were doing portrait pics .. I happened to be there and was put in the picture .. must have been about 5 then ....
Adorable photos Sandy, especially the last one.. thnx
You know what strikes me as funny, is the fact that we are all scattered all over this earth, yet when we post pics, as above, we all recognize the doors as being CDM doors, or the wall behind Bobby as the wall to the Girls changing rooms at the town pool.......
:emot26:

Hi Richard.

Sorry Richard.
Didn't see your note on top. This was all way before my time. Went to ops in the 70s. When at high-school at St. Paul College, Dr. Venter came arround as a school inspecter.

You right Patrick O Brian was a Brother at CBC and then moved on to Parklands, I think his youngest sister became a nun?
Georg j, never mind when you attended primary school, I wonder how many children were in OPS when Doc venter and Zandhuis were around? (Zandhuis arrived in Omund when I was in Std 4) many, many moons ago!

Debby you said the one pic was adorable .. I reveal the alter ego .. found this pic taken by uncle Sandy Laughlin .. memory came back .. must have been all of 3 - 4 years old .. check I was still very porky .. (weighed in at 10 1/2 pounds at birth ) My mom took me there to have pictures taken .. I wanted nothing of this and kicked up a fuss .. Auntie Jean tried to persuade me had me in her arms .. I remember giving her a slap .. got it straight back and told to behave myself ( the joy of the extended family of aunts and uncles to put you on the straight and narrow as well ) .... everything was tried but I remained sulky .. so Aunty Jean very practically said " just take the picture and keep it to show him in the future how horrible one can look when miserable " so there was me sulky , Noddy and any other toys thrust in my arms and picture taken .... still have the pic and therfore always try to keep a smile on my face and not be the horrid child ...........
is that Noddy on the right?
aahhh cute,so this is what our kids would have looked like Sandy catchball
@ Mike yes Noddy on the right .. some sort of a Teddy thing in the middle and a doll .. all taken from Beths room .. but yes we wonder nowadays what effect the doll had on me hey ?? or was it Noddy ?? ask the loony left seeing as they banned Noddy ...
Dear Dianna we would have been too brain damaged to have children after having been mistaken for the coconut shy at that mule derby ,, think it was pure luck we did not get lobbed .. ha ha ..
Some photographs from 1950s and 60s.
1. Left to right: Taken in Swakopmund at my gran's place in 1957, three of the Opperman children - Cathy, myself and Liz (Gary born later that year).
2. Taken in Oranjemund in +/- 1967 - Cathy, myself (did not call me Spiderman for nothing), Gary and a friend Andre Terblanche (stayed next to the Oliviers in the house that the Brownlesses later stayed in)
Thats all folks have a good laugh, but how about some of you childhood photographs??
Come on please keep posting and talk about the memories of yester year - it is all history of Oranjemund and good to pass on to future generations.
This idle chatter is getting boring!!
Viva to posting of photographs and yester year memories!! Viva! Viva!

Richard
I did I did .. .. have got a few writings to contribute in the pipeline .. just been so busy @ work and home projects .. that even my weekends feel nice and long .. once settled a bit again then will post more ..
Hi Richard, Just found this photo of you and yes i do remember your face and also Kathys......but thats all i remember.........looking forward to chatting to you at some time....... allgood
Now and then
Another photograph of the Opperman children from a slide taken by our neighbour mr Blaauwsted in 1961.
Taken out side our house E11/6 avenue - Note: How smallthe trees were in th early 60s - you can aee the old big mine dump and town magazine's red roof.
From left to right: Cathleen (Cathy), Elizabeth (Liz), Richard (Me) and Gary - ages then 6, 10, 7 and 4. Christian our neighbours sone whose hand I am holding is standing in Cathy's shadow.
Have a good laugh and keep well.
Richard
My goodness Richard .. you too were once blonde ?? well you back there again hey ?? .. in future kindly refer to our good friend Richard as a " platinum blonde" I hope I go like my Mom went a kind of lovely champagne colour , that was after the purple people eater shade she so bravely did for so many years ...........
Sandy I have to ask.... are you a writer? The reason I ask is that you write so eloquently. I always look forward to reading your posts as you always paint such a descriptive picture of all your memories!
Nope , not a writer .. just an ordinary production manager at a packaging manufacturer. I just write as it comes to me with the slight dyslexic blurs as the mind moves faster than the hands .. .. secret is just let it flow ..
Sandy, quite often one's mind is full of information/memories that you want to put down, but typing it at the same speed as what it is passing through one's brain can be an issue.... and often the spelling is mixed up or letter are left in the incorrect place... but at least the idea is there......
Me no ashamed .. quite proud of the quirkiness of it ..........
Ha! I know all about mixing up the letters..... my husband is dyslexic and it always gives me a laugh as he types or writes his boss's name as Brain instead of Brian!
Did anyone have any luck identifying some of the kids in the pictures (first picture) Mike put on the Your Photos page under Melanie Jonker's photos? Also, the other people in the photos of my Dad (Wally Jonker) receiving his bowls trophy?
Nope not on the kids foto .. its a loong time ago ... but I recognise on the right back slightly to us in the bowling photo would be Ronnie Young ....
Sandy, I've posted my school pic from 1967 - you were in Standard 3 when I was in Standard 2. Who'd have thought over 40 years have passed and we're looking at each other's school photo.
Come Sandy where's your Std 3 photo, I must dig mine out and post it as well.
Melanie I was in Std 3 with Sandy and also still have my Hardcover Grey Report card,as I see you have.
Diana .. sipping too much wine while surfing are we ?/ my std 3 pic is on page one of this topic ....
quickdop I forgot ok
Found this pic, which I love, siblings looking happy! The dolls in our laps really do reflect our personalities... Melanie's with her pristine, neat doll and mine with the hair pulled out!
Darn it... I think I've made it too big again... I give up!
Try reading this link http://www.oranjemundonline.com/Forum/index.php?topic=464.0
Georg also has a topic in here on resizing....

Ha ha Bev.... glad I'm not the only one that just tries, shuts her eyes then presses "post". I think Michael must think I am a halfwit by now! As he says though, at least I am trying!
I installed the resizer goody that Michael has on the forum and have found it quite simple to understand.
Hmmmmm I feel really dumb now. I'll go and study it right now.
No need to feel dumb, took me a while,I'm not very clever with these things either thats why I liked Mikes one.
Which programm is it Diana?
idontknow The one in O'munders please register under how to resize your picture. Very simple, good for my brain.
don't be so hard on yourself Diana hoolahoop1
Keeping this one alive again its got the 120 day warning .. come on folks !!!
