These items are becoming an eyesore in our town. This one in particular, has a lot of memories for me.... for this was built and wired up in 1979, the two CDM Telephone Dept helpers/Techies were the late Tate Martin and Thomas....... These two chaps sat in the hole at the base of this kiosk, for about two weeks, wiring up the lines with that favourite wire of ours from the 70's, scooby doo wire....... In recent years, I would walk past this kiosk and think of those two workers, one Tall and thin , the other short and slightly round..... kinda like the Laurel and Hardy of the CDM telephone department....
Well Namibia Telecom came along and installed new cables and modern Kiosks...... the old one's lay abandoned to the elements....their doors detached from their rusted hinges.... Voices no longer echoing down their once colourful wires......
bye1 bye1
I was just wondering who's responsibility these boxes are these days? Telecom or Namdeb's.............? between the POwer station and the pre primary is another of these Kiosks, doors off.......
Mike so many will walk past this tyoe of thing ... untill their phones conk out ...
We need to keep these boxes for the tourists, more of the history is preserved
