Well, this debate still rages throughout our town, but did anyone in an official capacity ever conduct a survey to find out if the locals actually wanted the town proclaimed? I know a number of people across the entire spectrum of the population that are not in favour of their safe haven town being opened up to the nation..... I also know a few business folk and the odd politician that does want it opened, to further certain business interests..... So here;s a non joking survey, YES or NO! ...... what do (would) you want! For the record, I nail my colours to the mast, and proclaim that I am against proclamation....
We all know the pro's and con's to the whole saga... yes, it would help develop the town for the day Namdeb eventually close their doors but... when that day comes, "Oranjemund" dies!!! Proclamation or not.
My 2 cents

I believe another meeting was held today in town, consisting of the various stakeholders concerning proclamation...... Namdeb, PRU, OTMCO, Politicians and Nam WIldlife folk...... Yet the actual people living here are still not asked if they want to be proclaimed...
Do you really think they are going to let us have a say; besides, even if we did have a say, do you think it would impact their decision on the matter. Us old-time Oranjemunders who are fond of and in favour of keeping "our" Omund as it is are actually the thorn in the sides of the proposed 'proclaimers'. The less hinderence from folk like us, the easier it is for them to swing the gates open and let the marauding masses in that will find no or golden employment opportunities here and turn to the streets and the big C for personal revenue.
Our voices are drowned out by the raucus the super efficient ministeries of the GRN are making with intentions of erradicating poverty with this "untapped source of employment & entrepreneurial opportunity"...
Anyone got a spare soap box?
Yes No Yes No .. the double edged sword .. benefits and yes problems ... there have to be controls and limits set if town is to be opened in order to maintain the safe haven ...
Just the point... how WILL it be safe if it's open to every Tom, Dick and Harry?
Retain certain security protocol to limit access or screen out certain elements like previously convicted persons... they get in here now, even with the tight measures in place and even the police don't have a leg to stand on in eradicating the unlawful or should I say the "illegal" residents. Posted elsewhere on the forum about eradication and human rights abuse...
