Title: Cadiz memories - boarding school days
Post by: Delia on November 19, 2009, 09:06:30 AM
Hey Mike....and others (u know who u are)......was in town this morning, had to go to the Spanish Consulate and finally remembered to take my digicam with this time.  What memories are resurfacing when you see these pics of Cadiz? For me, late night/early morning munchies after jolling at The Mix, 1886.......anybody????

Good one Sigmund but no, not a typo - the club was called 1886, it was in Shortmarket Street if i remember right - was a long time ago, late 70's/early 80's - was a bit of a dive but a cool place 'cos no-one was bothered about anyone else, everybody just did their own thing, all there on their own mission.  The weird & wonderful folk frequented the place but again, good people, never had any hassles there considering......

Er.... Uhm... I am not that familiar with the place during the bright sunlight... only knew the place in the wee dark hours.... it also looks way too clean somehow..... ... And the club was the Prince of Wales......

It's not the building they've cleaned up it's your eyes that have cleaned up, no more foreign substances blurring the vision like back in the day - but yeah, u right, it does take on a different glow in the daylight hours.  As for Prince of Wales, yup, i remember that one, our hangout many a time.........also Reflections, Charlie Parkers, London Town, Ritas, Watney Girls........the Sea Point strip!

Yes Delia, jokes aside I am quite familiar with Cadiz. Also spent many an early morning there between 1986 and 1992. (Got married in '93)

I remember all the clubs that you mention but I was never the clubbing type.
Prefered pubs or places with live music where you could actually have a converstation with your mates and not try to scream over blaring club music.

Perseverance and Lion's Head were my two favourite hangouts. Anybody remember them? And then the old Ferryman's before the V&A developed.

Club 604..... don;t forget that one.... As for Percy's , Ja! was in there quite few times also.,,,,, the amazing thing , all these clubs and pubs were in walking distance of my hostel and on the weekends my hostel was more like a YMCA and there were no restrictions..... Man! I could have been a pimp or something to that extent..... Oh! and then there was Trammps......

and another favourite one of mine back in the day.... The Crow Bar, about 900m from my hostel....

It's no wonder I have a drinking problem.....

This bar was even closer.... The Firemans Arms was about 400m from my hostel.... this was back in the days when the waterfront was still a fishing harbour, no tourist types.... just whores and sailors....
