Title: OBE for Bob Molloy
Post by: Bob Molloy on November 21, 2009, 02:43:05 AM
Hi all,
Just been awarded the OBE. Great party but can't remember most of it. The Governor General officiated. She did a great job.

Hi Ricky,
"About time" is right, I got it for good attendance. At the stroke of midnight on November 16 I was officially an OBE (Over Bloody Eighty). Friends and family came from around the world for the occasion, including John Cundill, an Oranjemunder from the early Sixties. The mob needed an extra two houses to accommodate them.
The GG (Governor General - she who runs my life) did a great job, presenting me with a bound book of photos going back to Omund days and including roasts and toasts from all concerned.
The roast and toasts were also delivered in speech form, a process that went on intermittently for half the night. Was a bit apprehensive of the roasts at first but relaxed when I realised they were letting me down lightly. As we say in the trade, the best stories never get written.
The part went on for days, with plenty of beach and hill walks to soak up the wine. Then they there were gone, in convoy in seemed to my vague recall, in a hail of farewells and a shower of gravel down the drive, leaving the GG and myself to a strangely silent house.
Next target: my OBN. Will keep you posted.
Regards,
Bob.

Just picked up on your post today Bob!! and Congratulations on your OBE.............when we were younger !!......... time went so slowwwwwwwwww and I remember my older sister she was two years older than me.

When she was 16 I was 14 and how I wished that I could be older (she was going to work and had her own money 'etc') well you know what I got what I wished for.

There is an old saying  'about being careful what you wish for'...............Frank.

Hi Uncle Bob!
Mother May wishes you a warm welcome to the club! She has recently been in touch with Billy and Monica Watson, who have just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary, as well as Nancy Stocken, who sadly had to report that Charles passed away last month. Mom will be under the knife tomorrow to reconstruct a knee (these things happen to the O.B.Es apparently), but otherwise she is in good spirits!
Stay well,
Ricky

Hi Ricky,
Good to know the Watsons are well and thriving. Ask your mum to pass on my regards. And sorry to hear about Charles. I've been in touch with geologist Larry Greenman recently who recalled stirring times with Charles in the early Sixties.
@Frank: thanks for good wishes. I doubt if, in looking back, you would change a thing. But you're right, they didn't tell us it would all happen so fast. I'm going to complain about that when I get to the Pearly Gates......
