Just a thought, in it's heyday, Oranjemund boasted 42 active clubs..... the following clubs are still active...

1) Golf Club
2) Soccer Club
3) Rugby Club
4) Gun Club ( more of a social affair)
5) Riding Club
6) Squash Club
7) Badminton Club
8) Bowls Club (Social)
9) Off Road Club (Log Cabin)
10) Snooker and Darts Club.....

Thats it..... I guess once the expats left....... well..... er.... uhm!

I loved participating in target shooting - might be of interest to members to see the prices of amo those years . starting @ R5.00 for 25 / 1980
and a couple of years later it was R43 for 50

The new years dance was always run by the rec club commitee. of course assisted by the affiliated clubs : chairman of clubs were :- [ Mike V your help is needed here re the first names of the chairman of the clubs ]  D. O' shea - hockey . Gert v Kradenburg -Jukskei   .  Peet Pienaar - Boxing  . Edgar Selby - 0.22 rifle . W. Phillips - .303 rifle .  D. Arnot - yacht club .   Rudi Ackermann - Bowling , R. Schuster - soccer . J. Coetzee - Karate .  B. Bowes - Angling . K Hansen - tennis . A.Muller - golf . T.Scott - Cricket .  Charl vd Merwe - Squash . B.Wessels - Rugby . V.Crankshaw - players . N. Brunjes - camera club . E.Storm - netball . A. Vermaak - lapidary . J.Williams - Garden club.

Hennie, you know more than me but here are the ones that I think are correct.....

Soccer, Robbie Schuster
Golf, Anton Muller
Lapidary, Alida(sp) Vermaak, wife of Gert

Then again I might be totally wrong...................

What about the car club . Chairman oom Kotie . The club closed doors when oom Kotie retired to Springbok . .. early 1980 's .

can anyone remember what the car club bage looked like - It was a silver laurel surrounding some yellow and black .. ??  with the letters OCC , I think
see the very poor picture I attach , maybe it will help to refresh memories
