Mike, how come you're a Cheetah's supporter? Is there something we don't know about you? I can understand for example that Bertie supports the Stormers coz he lives down in the Cape. But you and the Cheetahs, where's the link.
I'm not quite sure which team I support. I was 5 years in boarding school in Cape Town plus lived there for the last 15 months of my stay in SA. So I should support the Stormers. But my fiance is from the Free State (Welkom) so he supports the Cheetahs and if I want peace and quiet, I must cheer them on. But I also lived in Joburg/Witbank, so should I support the Lions? Actually, I used to like the Sharks when Frederic Michalak, my fellow Frenchman, played there. But then the Bulls have some real hunks in their team. So basically my only option is to switch to soccer and look for a team to support ... not, not France ... 23_146_26

@Patricia, Believe it or not, in the days before Namibia became independent, we had a team in the Currie Cup, The Biltong Boere/Welwichias. Too everyone;s surprise, we actually did well in the Currie Cup, ending 3rd one year..... At the time I was at Boarding school in Cape Town, playing in the 1st team at school and then in the afternoon playing for Hamilton;s U21.... I got to know people at Hamilton's that were connected to the WP rugby and when South West Africa got to play against WP, I was invited to sit on the main Grand stand. All the pundits claimed that there was no way that SWA would have a chance of beating WP as it was going to rain.... Anyhow, I still went and sat in the rain, alone amongst all those Weeeepeeee supporters....... and guess what..... against all odds, we beat them..... After the game I was invited to some knob pub in the stadium, the one were the ref has a dop after the game..... I was so proud of this team, I burst into song in that pub, standing alone sing Das Sudwesterliedt, needless to say I was never invited back....
Cut a story short, after Independence, Namibia fell out of the Currie Cup, I just had to find a side to support, one that was similar to SWA, the Sharks, WP, Bulls, Lions were all about money, with big fancy stadiums..... players playing for the money, not the love of the game, except for the Orange Free State.... there field at the time, looked similar to the field in Windhoek, hard, dry and Yellow, with one of those make shift stands..... these guys played running rugby, carefree flowing stuff........ there was also a big link with many an ex SWA player going through their ranks, due to the fact that many Namibians attended University in Bloem..... this was my team...... and that was 20 years ago, through thick and thin, I support the Cheetahs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just my Sporty 2 cents...
You asked Patrica!!!!!!
I know Cherry. I thought he was going to tell me that his long-lost cousin's daughter's step-dad came from Bloemfontein ... I definately wasn't expecting the whole Namibia story ...
