Thought I would post these various snaps of the Alexander Kid's living at E7-1st ave, Oranjemund, SOuth West Africa in the mid 70's ..... quite a few of you would have visited this house, either as friends of us kids, or pisscat friends of my folks, Jock and Vi , back in the day...
The photo, with us boys and the domestic, Jaffy, is interesting, because , he got fired by my father from our house ( for all the wrong reason;s , of which we only learned about many years later...) ..... However in retrospect it might have been a good thing for ol' Jaffy, ... as in the early 2001 ..2002, I got to hear of a message via the Oshiwambo grapevine, that Jaffy wanted to know if the Alexander family still lived in the town..... turns out, he fled the country, joined SWAPO, went overseas and became a doctor...... What do you know, funny old world... anyhow..... he sent greetings to our family 30 years later......
On another note, my late mom, always wanted a daughter, but was blessed to have us three sons..... Michael, Paul and Stephen...... My mom was the best and died way before her time and now lies peacefully in the graveyard in Omund.... (At least some property developers will not be along to dig her up!)
Just my sentimental 2 cents..... this saturday afternoon.....
Well now! Aren't ye the cutest boys on the block image 11

Best of mates... our folks!....... Here's a quick tale about that pic.... my dad's folks came out to Oranjemund in the late 70's for a holiday.... anyhow the above pic was shown to my dad's mum, Agnes..... she was highly offended that my dad had his hand on some bimbo's breast.... it took my dad about a week to explain to the auld gal, that .... that particular person was indeed a fella.... none other than yer da'..... one Peter .....

And I was wondering what the fellow was grabing at....
Great pics Mike. Brings back memories. The way we used to braai in OM.
I think that it was the world over.... in mining communities.... wherever they might be.,..... it was the generation before the internet , cellphones and sat TV....... a time when, whoever had a piano or a guitar in the house, was the place to be..... I fear, my friends..... it is indeed an end of an era...... not just in Africa.... but the world over..... so .... as ex Oranjemnder's .... we should pat ourselves on the back.... and remember.... that we.... were indeed........part of an era..... forever.... friends.... before the future came.....
