Patricia the light blue area was a Mini Zoo back in the '60's THEN became the Pre - School run by Sue Conyers in the late '70's what is is now I realy don't know.

I remember the Bioscope well! 1969 mans first walk on the moon was shown there, had my oldest son with me at the time he was about five years old he said 'he would like to become a space man' I think he achieved that ambition in life ........................but it had nothing to do with going up in a rocket........... remember the drive ins in Cape Town sadly like the Bioscope all gone. image04

Not long after the cinema was "outsourced" to an entrepeneur who turned it into a night club the Little Theatre underwent a face lift, was redone inside and was fitted with a projector and serious sound (which seldom worked to its best capability). Movies were shown for a couple of years until the scheduled flics didn't always show. (You went to see Bambi with the kids, sat down and Doom's Day started to roll... awesome. You go out for a bite and a movie and end up only having the bite... sign on the door says films did not arrive.)
Sure it must have been as frustrating for those managing / running the cinema side of things as for the patrons.
Little theatre and the Oranjemund Players still exist, though the Players could probably do with a few more inspiring actors and actresses...
Then again the song "Video killed the radio star" comes to mind... the likes of DSTV, Blue Ray, internet (ADSL) do have their adverse effects on the attendances and production of live stage performances.

I thought the petrol pumps were on the same road as the shooting range and the dumps. Opposite to 1st avenue. I also remember when we weren't allowed to bring cars into town. Every few months my parents would rent a little VW beetle for a week. Wow, we would drive around town like kings.
The current petrol station is indeed situation opposite 1st ave on Industrial Road....
Without a roof I may add, thanks to the Advance Transport company...... are-you-there
The petrol station was a bit closer to town, maybe even closer than the first houses on that photo.

The current Grade 1 classes at school was the Junior Primary playground when I was at school.
Alfie, if you put a line through the Pre School, cutting the area in 2 from top to bottom, the left was the Play School and the right was the park with the mini zoo.
Who remembers the hedge that was cut to spell CDM, visible from the air?
Nada. ... I too Remember the Rugby field... that was were the Poofy Slide was.... but nobody has a snap of it....... Then around 78 the new school got built...... Old Zandy, taught for about a year or two and then became principal.....
I am still looking for a snap of that poofy slide....

Alfie, the music rooms were where the Head Master's offices are now. The bicycle shed was next to the Sub A (now Grade 0) classes and I think it is still there. The area that you marked as the bicycle shed was a playground in my years. Pure torture as the bakery was across the road (I can still smell the fresh bread)!!!!
And yes, the powerlines were there many years ago! We did not know that it was dangerous.

In the GM Topic we've been chatting about the AGMs house. You can see it very well wet from the power station trees (not many left) and south from the tenis courts. The pol in the garden must've been built in about 1974. I remember well having seen the hole before it "turned" into a pol.
