This one is for you Frank.
Whilst visiting Alfie Boehme (maybe you remember his late father Fred) the other evening, the topic of Pseudonyms came up. Alfie is very intrigued by your nom de plume and to be honest, I know the "Toon" part but am also at a loss as to the rest. Maybe you can inform Alfie as to your meaning.
You are probable right about the TOON part the fandangl I have an idea that it came from my father he was in the Navy for 20 years and it was something he used in phrases..........its just stuck.............. image04
Thanks Frank, I'll let Alfie know...............
Hi Mike do you remember my dad and mom, Jock (worked with Fred engine bay) and Barbara Macpherson, both active at riding club in the day founder members.
Thanks Mike, Frank
Don't know how relevant to this conversation this is but I know the word "fandangle" from when I was a teenager. It is slang as far as I know and used in many ways.
1. "to fandangle someone" = pull the wool over their eyes, fool them.
2. "don't leave your stuff fandangling around here" = don't leave your stuff laying around.
3. "he is fandangling" = he is talking nonsense or avoiding the issue.
4. also can be an ornate or fantastic ornament.
There are other meanings (including sexual) but you get the idea.
Is'nt there a song with the words.. "fandangle "
"Fandango" was an instrumental hit for The Shadows during the 60's.
Yes Greg if you google fandangl there are lots of explanations for the word, there are even groups (musical) that have adopted the name. My old man was in the Navy and did a lot of service in the Mediterranean and I think the reference came from the establishments the sailors on RR visited............................... image14. naughty naughty image04
@toonfandangl
Strangely enough my uncle was in the Navy in the 60's and 70's and I seem to think that I first heard the word from him as well.
He spent a lot of his service in Europe and South America and my cousin (his son) and I used to enjoy 'sneaking a peek' at the 'interesting' magazines and trinkets he brought back from his trips. Especially those that came from Germany (nudge, nudge, wink, wink), but all without my uncle's knowledge of course! LOL.
