Would love to track Shaun down who I last saw in the early 80's. Does anybody know where he is or has contact details for me?
Is that family of Ozzie Woods?
???
Samantha, this is Sandy, Shaun's sister. Shaun is living in Knysna.
Does anyone have contact details for Helen Ullrich? I know she moved to Tunbridge Wells in Kent, she was going to marry a doctor so her surname may have changed
Sandy, are you Heidi Woods' sister? You used to have a Pondok called " Clovelly" and a wishing well in the garden?
Hi Nicky, yes I am. My word, I'd forgotten about the wishing well and the pondok........well not the pondok, who can ever forget about the pondoks, I'd forgotten that it was called "clovelly". How are you?
Hi again Sandy, I am very well thanks. Hope you are too? I live in Oz these days, but the good ol' memories of those years are never too deeply hidden in the spatial void that is my brain. I forget people's names at work, but I can still remember that your Pondok was called "Clovelly" after all these years .... Go figure. I can remember visiting you and Heidi and seeing the hanging wooden "plaque" with "Clovelly" carved in it. I think your Dad may have made it. How is Heidi, and what have you all been up to over the years? Where did you move to after leaving the Mund?
Nick
Sandy, your dad, the first video shop in Oranjemund, used to come to your house with a machine and a suitace full of tapes... we did go tgo the house on one or two occasions to drop off the machie and I remember the wishing well too....
I bet you did'nt wish that you could spell! hehehehehe! ;)
That was good Mike ..... LOL. Forever the stirrer!!
What on earth did you guys get up at the wishing well........????? Wow, the video shop. While it brought you all much pleasure I am sure, it robbed us of our pondok, a sad state of affairs since that was a "making out" spot.
Sandy, that's probably why everyone seems to remember the wishing well. LOL.
Sorry Sandy,
I IM'd you thinking you were Heidi's Mum... my Bad !!
Do you have contact info for Heidi, we were together at school.
Regards
Richard
PS : We sat watching movies that weren't being rented until the wee hours at Heidi's place - Wow, another regained memory.
Hi Nicky, it certainly appears that way ;) I do believe that your apparent vivid memory of the "clovelly" sign has little to do with the actual sign and more to do with teenage lust. ;) ;) ;) ..... It's great to be getting in touch with lost friends. There is definatley something unique about us Oranjemunders. Heidi is well. She's still in Cape Town, owns her own design school and business. Still single and doing well for herself. I'm well thank you. After I left Oranjemund my parents moved to Knysna and I went into the Hotel Industry and worked for Holiday Inns in Wilderness for a number of years. Got married and moved to Richards Bay in 1986 (still here), started a family, my son is 20 and my daughter is 16. I went into politics in the early 1990's and served 5 years on the Richards Bay City Council. I simultaneously got involved in environmental issues and founded the Richards Bay Clean Air Association in 1997 to monitor air qulaity. I am one of the Directors and 10 years later and an operating budget of R2m we are still going strong and doing great work. And that's my life in a nutshell. When did you go to Oz and what are you doing? Were you by any chance part of the daft bunch - me included - who decided one hot summers day to walk all the way to the yacht club.... along the road because we were too scared to take a "short cut" through the dessert? I know Heidi and Mel Ebstein were with but as for the rest, my memory fails me.
Richard, Richard, Richard,.... what does a 40 something girl say to a guy who thinks that she is her sister's mother.... :-* you're forgiven. I recall your surname but I cannot place you, Heidi will probably be able to jog my memory. I remember the movie nights, great fun! I will e-mail you Heidi's contact details but be warned she'll probably take forever to get back to you.
Hi again Sandy,
You may well have a point about the "Clovelly" sign, and I will no longer make any further comment on the matter on the grounds that it might just prove to be incriminating He He. Glad to know that both you and Heidi are well. You seem to have had a rather interesting life since those good ol' days. Good to see that you have become involved in a worthy cause. The environment is sadly taking a beating at the hands of huge corporate companies who think it is their absolute right to rape and pillage the earth all in the name of capital gain. I guess I am pretty much a Greenie at heart also. Maybe it is due to the fact that we grew up in the desert where we had a closer bond to all things natural. The fact that we were always interacting with nature must have had this lasting influence I guess. Keep up the good work.
Heidi certainly sounds like she is doing well for herself. I was surprised to hear that she was still single. She must have put all of her energies into her business. Please tell her I say a big " Hello", but don't mention the wishing well. He He.
I was married quite young, and after completing my apprenticeship initially moved to New Zealand for three years, before immigrating to Australia in 1991. We originally moved to the Goldfields (Kalgoorlie / Kambalda) which is a mining community. We stayed there for about 13 years and raised the kids. My son Rhett is 22 and daughter Alexa is 17. I am still plying the trade, and currently reside in Perth, Western Australia. That is about it in a nutshell really. ( Not quite as interesting as yours or Richards). With regards to the crazy walk to the beach, I can say that I was not part of the madness on that occasion, but can vaguely recall hearing about it.
Do you or Heidi know what ever happened to Courtenay van Eeden?
Regards
Nick.
Hi Nicky,
I am soooooooo sorry for not having responded to your posting - I feel awful. giverose To tell you the truth I haven't been online in months - shocking I know!! The end of the year is always chaotic for me. You are spot on about big corporate attitudes. I am glad to see that you are a "greenie" at heart (need more of us) and thank you for the support.
Thank you for the news. My how time has flown. I assume you are aware that we have literally been plunged into darkeness courtesy of our governments "exemplary forward planning". So right now I envy all of you who have emigrated. For some reason, known only to our City Engineer (who incidently wont return my calls) the power outages in Richards Bay are unbelievably bad. We loose electricity supply almost every day for 3 - 10 hours - it is insane!!!
I gave Heidi your "hello" and she sends a "big Hello" back. I"ll ask her about Courtenay when we next speak.
Well must dash, duty calls. I wish you and your family a great year!!!
Regards,
Sandy
