In today's Cape times, BP has announced that they have been given the exploration rights to drill for oil and gas in the deepwater Orange river basin! There will be meetings to address any issues with locals in Port Nolloth, Springbok, Alexander Bay. Now the interesting question is KUDU GAS Hello!!!!! I thought Tallow Oil had done this already?The other interesting thing is a huge drill rig ship is anchoring just off big bay (Angola Explorer ships name). Every day I see tug boats go out to the ship and back into harbour. (Tug captains are not on strike, so they go for a freindly chat perhaps).According to the "port report" the drill ship is gettting supplies on board before it moves up the West coast. Now BP don't exactly have a good track record at the moment. (Oil spill in USA), so what is going on. Maybe our little town will be the take off point for crew, visitors etc, who knows.Maybe KUDU gas sold out or BP are going to explore in SA waters, just on the fringe of the border. Makes you think doesnt it. On the brighter side the ship looks beautifull at night all lit up like a gigantic christmas tree, at lease we can go to see it at night (thats if we ever get home!) pls
Suppose there's positives and negatives - On the one side, more feet and customers for local business, and then on the other hand - like you say, with them soiling nature on the other side of the ocean, not much trust in the way they're handling it. Yeah, yeah, they might pay for damages, but that will never bring back the creatures that suffered and died in the disaster!!!
