Hi, Does anyone know the where abouts of Kevin Laubscher? We knew each other in the late 70's during our high school years.
Hi Sandy - is this Sandra Wood? If it is, I remember you - i've got a photo of you and Kevin down at the river. I have his cell number - will send it to you.
Hi Sandy,
Yvette (Biccard) here, Renee sends regards. she comes onto the site from time to time to catch up but is very quiet. Would love to catch up with Heidi. Please say hi to her. Its been tooooo many years. Enjoy the forum.
Yvette
Hi Delia
Trust you are well ?? Tell Kevin I also say Howzit when you next have contact with him. Where is Mark(y) Laubscher these days ?
Keep well
Cheers
Patricia (Lineker)
Hi Patricia - ex neighbour in single quarters - remember we shared a kitchen & bathroom in 1989/1990 - i always remember the timeframe - it was over Nam's independance time.
Haven't spoken to Kevin actually - got his number from Goofy (Malcolm Aitken) when he told me Philip had died - felt a bit awkward speaking to Kevin then - what do you say to someone who's brother has just died after not having spoken to them for 20 odd years??" Not too sure where Markie is these days - saw him about 5/6 years ago - at that time he was living with Philip out on a smallholding in the Durbanville area -he'd just gone thru a really rough patch and wasn't doing too well. He was working at Philip "handlanger" at Rainbow Chickens. Haven't seen or spoken to him since - just seemed to lose contact. I know Kenny Aitken sees Kevin every December and even Kevin didn't seem to know where or what Markie was up to.
Hi Yvette, say hi to Renee from me. The years sure have flown. It's amazing to be able to find "lost" friends....we Oranjemunders have a special connection. Heidi is in Cape Town, doing very well for herself, still single. Owns her own design school (Boston House College School of Design), as well as her own design company. I will e-mail you her contact number.
Regards,
Sandy (Wood)
Hello everyone,
I know you were all a year or two ahead of me, but I remember Kevin's Dog called "Bruce" :)
Best Regards
Richard
Richard, I recently made contact with Kev after 25 years, he's doing good. I can't believe you remember his dog "Bruce" - wow - another puzzle piece. What are you doing in Dubai?
Sandy,
I just got off the phone, 1 hour phone call to Oz taking with Nicky (& Gabi).
I am an Air Traffic Controller, but have not spoken to aircraft for about 4 years now. I am heavily involved Project Management for the procurement of Air Traffic Equipment for the expansion of Dubai Airport and the Establishment of the new International Airport (Dubai World Central).
Regards
Richard
PS : Cannot wait for Heidi's address, another memory regained.
Howzit again,Richard,
Awesome chinwag we had yesterday!! Still pinching myself .... I remember Kevin and mark well. Very sad about Phillips' passing. Who could forget the Golden Labrador, Bruce? Kevin and Bruce were inseparable ...... They went everywhere together. Bruce was the only dog I know that went to school each day. He was even allowed into the classroom during our studies. I can recall one day Bruce tried to climb / crawl out of the window ( those swivel ones) to get outside, but was a little too big, and the window shattered as a consequence. Can't remember who the teacher was, but he/she was not impressed. Do you remember the black Labrador he had also? I think his name was Hondo. He died before Bruce did.
Cheers.
Hey Nick,
I don't remember "Hondo".
I do remember kids throwing those ladybird crackers and Bruce eating them. Did anyone ever confirm if that was really a dog? Bruce seemed to different to be a real dog.....
Regards
Richard
There should have been a statue erected to Bruce he was THE dog! Richard & Nicky, what happened to Phillip?
Cherry
Cherry, Sadly, Phillip passed away last year.
regards,
Sandy (wood)
Nicky, that time u talking about bruce climbing thru the classroom window - wasn't that the time he got locked in at break time by mistake and he could see the guys playing soccer thru the window and he did everything he could to get to them - i remember he used to "play" soccer with the guys at break time. kevin had this joke that he would put bruce's head between his hands, bring his face up to his and say "Bigger, put your eye to my eye" and put their eyes together........the things one remembers. Kevin really loved that dog and vice versa. In fact he crawled into all our hearts in 5E of '77 - being an honoury member of the class.
remember how at interhouse sports days and swimming galas bruce would be there with a red ribbon on his collar to support Kevin's house Rhodes? Apart from being the only dog allowed at school, he was also the only dog allowed at sports/gala days.
he was also handy to have around to finish any left over dental milk - must've had the healthiest teeth among all the others dogs in town :D
On the subject of famous dogs .. The black labrador cross that used to be the Belelies dog . When Mrs Belelie passed away he just sort of left home . he had a variety of names Dingo .. cane and coke etc as he took to drinking as well .. he used to go to movies lots of nights and became our unofficial mascot at the Tech for quite a time .. spending the day with us just waiting to go for a drive on the tech bakkie .. he used to also troll around the town on sunday mornings and if he saw folk packing a bakkie to go to the beach he would jump on and " hitch " his ride to the beach.. doing his rounds from shelter to shelter scrounging food and drink . I remember the one day we were all at the beach and aftre the party carried on at the single quarters .. I then was walking home afterwards .. and he joined me as he would sometimes as the Belelie home was on route to my home to do the occasional visit . .. here were the two of us kind of walking .. me staggering a bit and him holding on to my sleeve with his teeth as he was also a bit unsteady .. a comical sight I can imagine .. the one time I remember he had a gash on his face and he really worked that to get sympathy and extra food .. he walked into the cafe with us .. put front paws on the counter showed off the injured side of his face and put on the saddest look you can imagine .. it earned him a pie !! another one with brains and chutzpah ...
Hi there Cherry,
How are you? Hope things are going well. I'm not the full bottle on Phillips passing, but Delia mentioned on a previous posting that his Pancreas had failed or something ......... Delia?
Maybe Kevin will join the site one day and tell a few stories of his own. Cherry, Gabi has just yelled out from the kitchen to say hello from her ........ HELLO !!!
Hey Delia, long time no chat ........ Your recollection of Bruce climbing through the window is more accurate than mine ( Mere Male Brain), and I can now vaguely recall that he was trying to get out of the classroom to join us kids playing soccer. " Put your eye to my eye "............. Now that's a phrase I remember ......... I would never have imagined that anyone else would remember this. As you say, it's amazing what actually gets stored on those memory cells.
While we on the subject of dogs, there was a lady that worked at the swimming, many many moons ago. Anyway she had this dog that she sent shopping, with a basket in it's mouth carrying the note and money.A ridgeback i think the dog was.Who was she?
It was Auntie Murgie Robinson .. she had a blonde labrador .. she was the manager of the swimming pool many moons ago ...
Hiya Nicky,
Tell your lovely wife that I'm still waiting for pics of my god daughter! Of course, hello to you all too! Do you know if Jeff Quinton is still based in Perth or still freezing his whatsits off in places like Siberia?
Cherry
That reminds me Cherry, the Quintons have'nt surfaced on the forum. The last we saw of Jeff he was married and still living in Perth.
Is this family of Bradley Quinton?
???
Michael, yes.
Nicky and Delia
Poor ol Bruce was getting on in years and didn't wake on day at break, Delia is right. When he did wake everyone had gone out to play so he took himself through the window.
Previously his timing had been immaculate-
I recall that he actually belonged to a childless couple, who allowed this adoption during the day, although I think it become permanent.
Kevin where are you bud, help us out!
I last saw Jeff in about 1999/2000 when he was out here on holiday. He's divorced and was doing engineering work in the oddest of places. When he was here he was stationed in Siberia and worked in -40 degree weather he told me.
Howdy Cherry et al,
Have just asked the girls about the photo's, and Alexa said she will get some together once she has finished exams. Gabi doesn't get to spend too much time on the PC these days, as the real estate market keeps her pretty active and subsequently robs her of precious time. I offered to look through the photo files myself and send some on to you, but got a barrage of verbal abuse and some filthy looks .......... Apparently I can't send just ANY photo's ????? ........... Girls !!!!!!!!
In answer to the questions about Jeff Quinton, yes he is still based in Perth. Weather he works locally or away is anyone's guess. It is a rather small world really, as there are two people at my work who know of him. One is an ex- Oranjemunder who served part of his apprenticeship with him (John Button who is the brother of Nicki Button and was incidentally in my class at school for a short time), and the other is a guy that worked with him on a gold mine. What is even more of a coincidence is that I was a contractor on the neighbouring mine for about a year, and one day was sent to this mine as they were short on labour, and noticed the name "Jeff Quinton" on a notice board. You could imagine my surprise, when finding out that he was indeed the same guy that I knew of. He had unfortunately only resigned about a month prior to this. I knew that he was in Oz somewhere, but little did I know that he was just about a ten minute drive down the road. He probably wouldn't remember me, as I last saw him in the seventies when he was still married to Marie. I am about five or six years younger than him also.
To answer your question Mike, yes he is the brother of Brad, Brent?, and Beverly. I think he married a girl from Esperance (Western Australia) in about 2002 or 2003.
Nicky, my dad is sitting here with me, he wants to know if that mine is the same mine that John Mack and Rodney Cattermole worked at?
???
Hi Mike and Jock,
Tell your Dad that the mine John Mack worked at was called Argyle (Diamond Mine), and is situated in the Kimberly region of Western Australia in the far North of the state. The mine I was referring to was near the town of Leonora in the South of the state. (North Eastern Goldfields).
Cheers

Thanks for that Cherry............... if you see Kevin down there........ give him my regards.
Kevin is working in Witbank at the moment.
Hi Kenny.
I believe to remember your name. Do you remember me. I don't know what you look like, how old you are, or ...
I saw in one of your posts, that you know Kevin Laubscher. I remember him well. He was kind of cool. One of the best soccer players in the old tennis court outside the standerd 4 classes. I think he had an older and younger brother. They must have lived somewhere on the east side of town near the desert. But who didn't live near the desert?
It was close to the Boltens. Did you know them. Wayne was in standard 2 and 3 with me. Std 4 and 5 the classes were mixed new. His brothers were Gavin and Mark. nice guys. I think they left om in 1976.
Georg
Georg, talk about a small world. My ex brother in law was married to Jill Boltman (baby of the Boltman kids) - Mark, Gavin & Wayne's sister. Gavin was with me in class, Wayne & Mark being the older ones. I'll never forget the day Gavin cut himself while playing in the trees, went home and got a "bandage" - came back to carry on playing with a sanitary towel wrapped around his hand.
Hi Georg
I was in class with Mark Boltman, Ivan Bester, Owen de Jager, Gary Neugabuar(spelling), Linda Olivier, Stephen Worth, Patty Doran, Michelle Chemaly, Rene Phillips, Teresa Carr and the rest. I left Oranjemund in 1985, I worked in the IT department for 3 years before I left. I am still in the IT field at the moment, working for KWV in Paarl.
The Boltmans were good friends of ours untill they left O'mund, Trevor, Pam, Mark, Wayne, Gavin, Mandy and Jill . I haven't seen or heard of them since I was in Std 6. Mark and I were at WBHS together for the first term of Std 6 and then his parents moved down to Brackenfell.
I often see Kevin, he visits me every December in Paarl, Phillip passed away last year and I have no idea where Markie is or what he's doing.
Georg your surname seems to ring a bell but I still can't place a picture.
LOL, Delia, just goes to show what strong stuff we were made off back then.
Sanitary towel - my gosh kids won't even go outdoors if there jeans have the wrong label nowadays -
@ Kenny

I think everybody called Mark Boltman Ocky. I remember the name Bester, but Ivan?? Owen de Jagger was at scouts with me. Linda Olivier? Relative of Rusty and Delia? Stephen Worth was the toughest scout om had in the 70s. He did a 100 km survival walk on his own through the desert. At the age of 15 or so. I remember a Steven Carr. I think his father was an engineer.
Was Philip athe younger brother of Kevin? I can't remember.
Georg
Georg,
Linda is Delia and Lance's (Rusty) sister.
Teresa Carr is daughter of Jock and Edna Carr (Edna sadly passed away a month ago). Teresa has two sisters, Sandra the oldest and Janet the youngest, they also had a brother Robert who was killed in a motorbike accident in Oranjemund in the early 80's.
Stephen Carr was the son of Jakie Carr (engineer), Stephen had a sister called Stephanie who married Gary Ebstein who has a brother called Mel.
Ivan Bester had two sisters Angela and Wendy and a younger brother, Mark. His Moms name was Janet (can't remember his Dads name, I think they called him Bessie or something like that). I know his Mom got divorced and married another ex-Oranjemunder called Steve or was it Stephen Kerr (not sure if I got the correct name here).
Thanks kenny. Your a great help. Things are fitting better by every note you send.
I see you know the Ebsteins too. They lived around the corner from me in 2'nd ave. I remember they had and old Volvo with the sign "Powerwagon" on the bootcase. Mark vasn Greunen ans I always wondered, wether Mr. Ebstein put that sign on the car himself.
Do you stil live in om, or when did you leave?
Georg
@ Kevin
Have you got a pic from, your father ? Dit he work in the magazine ???
I think i know him
Check out "georgswa" 's profile. You'll find a pic of my father there. ; )
You are correct, my Dad did work at the magazine (Ken). Malcolm (Goofy) is my brother and I have a younger sister, Carol-Anne. I left Oranjemund in 1985 (after 15 years), at the moment I am working at KWV in Paarl.
Thanks Kenny, i remeber the face very well, a shorty like me, nice and quite person
Any Pictures ?
Hi Kenny.
Did we travel namibia for 2 weeks the scouts in 74?
