I had heard this before.... On Saturday morning I happened to be in the museum and was paging through that book, Diamond People, and read a part where, a previous GM of Oranjemund, Keith Whitelock makes the statement, that two ancient streams of the Orange river actually run under Oranjemund. The town had been built all those years ago on Diamond bearing ground...... He went on to say, that if they mined this deposit, it would support two mines for a number of years to come.....
So in this statement begs the question, How can you proclaim Oranjemund if there are diamond deposits under my garage.....
and then..... we know that there is recorded history of at least three diamond pickups in town area over the last 50 years.....
I just find it all so fascinating.....
Are you sure you are just digging a hole for your 'Porta Pool" Mike A..........???????
Oooooooops, I better watch what I write, I might be asked to leave someone's house.
I think I'll keep my comments about someone to myself until I'm back in Gordons Bay.............. image21
My Pavement is covered with diamonds
Don't worry too much about the streams... if you knew how deep the deposits are in the area you wouldn't waste your time mining them from your back yard. The overburden would be piled higher than your fence all the way around the house... or perhaps you'd take a bag with you when you take Shadow for his walk and slowly let it leak out along the way. Something like that story of the prisoners who tunnelled out and spread the excavated material around the prison yard...
I better stop before the MIB are onto us...
SOmebody mentioned a name of an old timer back in the 70's who kept moving his pondok around his yard every few months, it was only after he had left town, that suspicions arose that he might have been doing a bit of prospecting..... the chap was in mining after all.....
