Title: Die Wagpos Tussen Alex Baai en Port Nolloth!
Post by: Michael Alexander on July 22, 2010, 07:19:52 AM
Hennie forwarded us this interesting photograph from the really old times. This is a photo of the CDM "gate" that was situated between Port Nolloth and Alexander Bay.

Now this was before my time in Oranjemund, but I am sure that a few of you will recall this "final" gate ....

Dankie Hennie!

That would be 2km north of Holgat? But that is just a tin shack!

We knew it as Gate No2.  It was exactly opposite the current Eskom substation.  It was a house and a family lived there at one stage.  Mike, this house and gate was still there in the late 70's, cannot remember when it was bulldozed, maybe when they built the substation.

Remember both gates very well.
When I returned to Oranjemund last year I tried to see where they were, but couldnt find any trace of them. They must have been demolished.

The tar road takes a different route now compared to the old dirt road.
