Here you go Michelle and a few of the garden!
:)
and these
Wow! My sister just told me of this site and there is my old house!! We were the Jonkers that lived there. Avril and Wally Jonker and their children Richard, Melanie and Lucille (me). Will try and hunt some pics down to send. Thanks!
Hey Lucille, Great to have you onboard, feel free to chat and share those memories....If you need any help...... just ask.....
Mike
Don't they have the painters round every so often as in the old days. The house have very shoddy paint work and the window frames look rusty. Do all the houses look this way?
You must see Alfred's house...jeepers, you'll shiver.....
Oh dear.....so no-body paints then?
Just kidding.... the mine no longer employs their own dept to paint the buildings, this has been outsourced to private contractors..... and I beleive the budget for repainting houses has been reduced.....As a kid, you would actually see the teams move into a house for 3 days, then onto the neighbouring house, two teams on opposite side of the streets... these days this is not the case..... It feels like the mine is getting ready to pull the plug..... One gets the impression that after independence, contary to what the mine preaches, they do not have their employee's needs at heart.... Is this becuse the masses moved down here with large families? Is this because the expats all left?, Is this because it was easier to take away those benefits from the workforce to save money on the big budget..... the Town has been abandoned,The christmas tree, the mule derby.... everything has been outsourced to make it easier for Debeers to cut those paternal strings when they detach from this barren and used corner of The Namib..... their treasure chest now empty, the pirates gone.... the victims still here....
Gee! I'm getting deep now, and I ain't even pissed!...
it was a really amazing place.....from what you all say its nothing like the place we knew and loved.....think us lot from the 60's-70's era were very lucky to have been part of what O/M used to be.......still cant wait to come back though.......
WOW, I use to live in 55 -1st Avenue. Cannot say I recognise number 53 from the pics. I guess so much has changed in Oranjemund. Did a return trip in 1987 and already so much had changed. Found a pic of my first day at Oranjemund Private School... boy that brings back sooo many memories. e154 to all those I knew back then....
Dunja Toussaint (Nee Wrbka)
Of ... 55 - 1st Avenue
Hi Dunja - Were you in O'mund in the late 70's and very early 80's by any chance; it's just that I think I recognise your name and if memory serves me correctly you used to plait my hair; what a strange memory to have of some-one. I am Rhona Mc Manus and I have a sister Grainne and a brother Gary......we lived in 7th Avenue and were always plagued by those Alexander boys.........have I the right Dunja? If not, just ignore this post and welcome to the fun...
I remember her, Black hair...down the road from us..... in fact I think her name was mentioned way back in the beginning of this forum, for a reason or other.....
That's right, the girl I have in my memory has black hair........must be the same girl
Hi Dunja.
I remember your family fairly well. I can remember your mom poping in at our place one evening. I think our mothers were colleauges.
I recall the name Wrbka........shopping center perhaps?
my goodness, Dunja, was wondering what happend to you guys. Carl-Martin was in class with me, Andreas was on the same plane as us, he went to Centarius.
Hi Dunja, yes definitely remember you, please post a pic of you so these regular cronies can really remember you.
Cobwebs get the better of them from time to time, comes with age!! Then we wont have to read about how or how they dont remember you for the next 3 months.
allgood
Time for some bitch slapping!! you people have it way too easy around here. Since Paula not here, I think I'll do the honours. Georg??? please say something...
Hi Yvette. sorry, but internet is not working well for me this week. Are you the 3rd Wilson sister?
Judging by your temptation on bitch-slapping, you must be... bling1
Hi Everyone, yes this is the Dunja I think you remember. Just alot older now. And hopefully a little wiser. Rhona, yes I remember you, not so much the hair plaiting thingy but yes I had long black hair (more dark brown infact).
Susan, I see Carl has joined the website so I am sure you should have heard from him by now or will shortly. I will however let him know to look out for you. My mother's name is Brunhild Wrbka who worked in the Cash Office at the shopping centre. My mom clearly remembers Elsie Boeme & Georg Ruf very well :-) Its so great to make contact with old aquantances. Please do feel feel to drop me an email. dwrbka@yebo.co.za
As soon as I have figured out how to use this site properly I will post some pics to jog some memories.
xoxox
Do you know if your mom remembers my mother... Vi Alexander?
Hope you realise there's two of us Dunja.
I remember Mrs. ralph (english teacher) using your name as a typical east Europian type. No vouls. I remember me having your name Wrbka going through my head again and again. :36_2_35: :emot112:

Hi Susan
