After holding out for 33 years, the canopy covering the long alley on 7th was eventually cut down....
Some of you on your speedy choppers from the 70's would remember flying down the length of the long alley on 7th, raiding the mulberry and apricot tree's.... towards the western end of the alley was a canopy of tree's that had grown over the alley, creating Oranjemund's only treetop canopy that was about 4 metres in length, sadly on saturday morning the cleaning crews moved in and removed yet another small part of my memory....
I stood there as they removed that greenery, Kelvin in hand, staring at the two workers, cutting away at my past........ when I mentioned to the two lads that the canopy had been living there since 1977, they just grinned and continued their duty....
