Title: Blue Bulls player arrested for murder on Metro Police officer
Post by: Dalene Steenkamp (Coetzee) on August 27, 2010, 12:01:19 PM
Just heard this on the news and the Blue Bulls team management has confirmed that one of their players has been arrested last night.

No name was mentioned in the bulletin.  Maybe will be done later when formal charges has been laid.

Does anyone know who it might be?

Apparently the cop was beaten in the street and died later in hospital by the player.

14H00 news bulletin on RSG just confirmed this, but still no name

Mnr.

Me.

Hy word by die Sunnyside-polisiekantoor aangehou.

I wanted to make jest of the this tale, but in retrospect, when a person loses his life , no matter be he black, purple  or white, it is sad , and tragic, especially when the accused has beed on the piss the whole night.......

We do not know the facts of the case, but the older one starts to become, we can do naught , but shake our heads when the younger generation tend to think that the answer to most disagreements can be solved through violence....

I learned this does not achieve anything, many a year ago.....

Mike, I agree.  There is no excuse for a person to get drunk to such an extent that you lose all inhibitions and then do things like this.  Yes, it will be blown up into a racist thing again ... fact remains that a person has been killed and it was so needless ...

I agree with you, violence has never got anyone anywhere. A life is costless and precious, money can never pay for a life. Our Blood is Sacred and Should Not be Spilt.

All considered... yes the dude was tanked, so judgement was far from its best... but, big but, the other side of the unexcusable tale is that there have been hi-jackings involving "uniformed officers of the law". How the $^&*# do you tell the difference between a jacker and a McCoy copper at half-1 in the morning...
Just a wee small point in mitigation, not excuse!

Very true, Andrew, though I still say that one should not drink so much that alcohol starts making decisions for you ...

Yes, I know that I said this whole thing will turn political, but one good question has arisen from it :  How come the murderes of Eugene Terreblanche only had to pay R5000 bail and Bees Roux had to pay R100 000??  Is murder not murder ??  Where is the fairness in that????

Was listening to Cape Talk the other day about just this bail thing. Apparently bail is set as to what money you have...R5000.00 to the guy in the township is worth as much as R100 000 to this Bees guy. He has oversea's accounts and is a bigger flight risk. So the radio tells me.......

Maybe in his drunken stupor he lost his wallet earlier on and some lucky vagrant got their hands on it?

Yeah, all good and well. Dude was pissed.....but what provoced the guy to do what he did??. I'm not defending him, but it is no state secret that officers are pigging out on their power and rank in society. Maybe the cop made stupid remarks.....I would also like to know how it is possible for a tanked up dude to "muder with his bare hands", a armed officer.....

My 2 cents..

A tricky one  indeed ,,,  lets not speculate , let the courts decide ,, as  for the whole uprising of  its a racist killing , makes me sick to the core ,,,  there is always a " rent a  crowd " to make a statement ... the horrible fact is  excessive totally uncontrolled ( partly due to the juice  consumption ) physical force was  used and is not excusable ,,, if he felt  threatened  he was big and burly enough to give the cop a stiff klap and go on his drunken way ...
The unanswered  question  is ,  and we will never know  as  the  cop is dead  ,  is  that  it seems the cop was  possibly upon  recognising  him maybe  trying to get him home safely without  incident  ??  this " privelege' not only  always afforded to the  ANC  elite , but yes granted to  ordinary folk and the famous at  random times ,,  heard it happen ,,,,

Seems  to me one night of misadventure  gone so  horribly   and unnecessarily  tragically wrong ,,,so  sad ...

Any cop stopping cars at that time of the night in Joburg is playing with his life, wonder if he thought this white person would be an easy target to earn some extra cash.
Few people would stand up if Bees gave them a stiff klap and their heads hit the tarmac.

Not speculating, just thinking out loud......  image04

Meanwhile, Tshwane metro police have launched their own internal investigation into Mohale and the two fellow officers who had instructed Roux to pull off the road that morning.

This is apparently the fourth internal investigation involving Mohale.

Beeld has learned from four independent sources about three previous ongoing internal investigations involving Mohale. These investigations related to charges of theft and disorderly conduct in July 2007; failing in his duty and unprofessional conduct in November 2008; and gross negligence, committing a deed harmful to the council and failing in his duty in December 2008

Mmmmh! Does'nt sound like the type of cop that would offer to drive you home of you were drunk?

Here is news in from News24 about Bees being Blackmailed by Metro Cops.

Bees 'was being blackmailed' 2010-09-02 08:21

Hilda Fourie and Gerhard Pretorius, Beeld
Pretoria - Blue Bulls prop Bees Roux may have become the victim of blackmail at the hands of metro police officers, after he spent a drunken evening at an infamous strip-club in Pretoria. Roux had been at the club, Flamingo's in Church Street, until the early hours of the morning before he was flagged down by members of the Tshwane metro police. Roux later was arrested for murder after an incident in which one of the metro policemen died. Pieter Crous, owner of Flamingo's, said on Wednesday that officers of the Tshwane metro police would wait for his clients to emerge in the early hours and then drive them to ATM machines. "The clients must then draw money and give it to the metro police officers or face being arrested for driving while drunk," explained Crous. He confirmed that Roux and a friend were at his club on Friday morning.

Was already drunk.

Another person who was also visiting Flamingo's, said Roux and his friend were "already drunk" when they arrived at the club shortly before midnight. Roux left the club after 01:00. "Presumably, he then fell prey to corrupt members of the metro police," said Crous.Roux appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court on charges of murdering Sergeant Ntshimane Johannes Mohale, 38, and drunken driving. He was released on bail of R100 000.

Rudi Krause, his legal representative, said in the bail application that Roux was a "victim of theft by a metro police officer". These investigations related to charges of theft and disorderly conduct in July 2007; failing in his duty and unprofessional conduct in November 2008; and gross negligence, committing a deed harmful to the council and failing in his duty in December 2008.

Internal investigation

None of the earlier investigations or disciplinary hearings had been completed. Tleane did not want to confirm any of the charges. He did say the internal investigation which the metro police was conducting after Mohale's murder was "standard procedure" and that metro police were working with the police "to understand the case".
This included probing the procedure which officers followed after pulling Roux off the road for drunken driving.
Apparently, Roux was not arrested or cuffed, but Mohale got in behind the steering wheel of Roux's car and then drove away with him. The places where he drove to could not be confirmed at the time of going to print. They did, however, drive away from the nearest police stations, Sunnyside and Brooklyn. Dikeledi Lehobye, member of the mayoral committee for community safety in Tshwane, stated on the afternoon of Mohale's death that the metro police officers were taking Roux to his home when the incident occurred. However, Roux resided in Equestria in the east of Pretoria. Krause did not want to comment and did not want Beeld to speak to Roux.
The law states that should an officer of the law pull over a person due to drunken driving, that person should be controlled by handcuffing him, explaining to him why he was being arrested, his rights should be read to him and he should be taken to the nearest police station.

All aside , speculation  aside ,  theories aside ,,  corrupt  cop or not  ( thought entered  head ) , if all accounts  of the eye witness are true  (autopsy  would reveal extent )  if  the assault was  sustained  and  as  brutal  as  described  then it was unnecessay  and unfortunately  the person is then culpable ...   soused or not ,,..

Just to pick up on a point in Pepe's post...

In a recent episode of "Special Assignment" on SABC the Police/Metroploice were exposed for exact same type of corrupt dealings involving ATM withdrawals from folk who've been "busted" picking up under-age hookers on street corners. Sometimes even the hookers themselves were forced into handing over their takings or to have sex with the policemen.

Now where is the justice in that!!!

No wonder Bees wanted to wind the copper up!! His (Mohale) track record even shows that he's been/being investigated by IA for irregular practices whilst on duty...!!
