I was at a braai on Friday night and was talking to a person who had just returned from the One Plant area.
He reckons that the entire plant is practically gone. SA Metals have just about finished removing every part of the structure.
The same goes for Affenrucken, every piece of scrap, roofing and the bridge are all gone, he reckons the only thing still standing at Affies, is the walls....
Two Plant is/was meant to go the same way, but the chaps busy with the sci-fi mining of using robotic seawalkers have commandeered a workshop or two at the plant to operate from.
One chap has just finished refurbishing the fish dam at two plant and has asked me for a couple of fish to place in it.....
Sad, but things cannot go on for ever, hope those blerrie sea walkers can recover the shining pebbles....
I'll have to have a drink to commemorate the passing of the best spot in the sperrgebiet.
Somehow knew this topic would garner a response from Malcolm....
I am awaiting a few pics from the areas ..... waiting for one of my roving photographers.... ThatStinks2
50g Plant is also gone, just some concrete structures left....
I was on my way to Affenrucken 2 weeks ago.
1 plt was still there
Affenrucken hostel Malclom's home was still there all the scrap is gone looks so much better now

Can somebody humour a nostalgic old ex-pat here and post a few pics of any or all of the following: 50G (the old Gemsbok site), North Electrical, Uubvley and Mittag workshops?
These guys do not mess around.... the big scrap yard at 4 plant also vanished.... one day it was there and the next time I rode past it was gone.
Seen them hauling stuff away from the scrap yard near 3 plant to.
They have also taken down some structures at 4 plant that were becoming a safety hazard.
Sad in a way, that some people at the top cannot think ahead and realize that those old abandoned plants would make tourist attractions..... think if Kolmanskuppe had been removed, tourists would'nt be drawn to an empty piece of desert to hear about what used to be here ...
But, I guess nobody was listening to me, when I bitched about this two years ago on this forum......

Hey Mike doesn't that just refuel our whole concern that the diamond market only just keeps this place afloat. If the scrap is already being taken away and sold to supplement the mine's coffers, what is left for us to build our "Mad Max" type village to fend off the baddies once the diamonds are gone?
As you said, without historic infrastructure (old buildings and the likes) what are the tourists going to see... what's the attraction besides the barren Namib desert and the historic memory of what once was.
I understand the concern about the environment & rehabilitaion etc... but how did they want us to sustain this town?
Itourism!
I am now sitting here at 2plant, the plant is in a total mess. Everthing is lying around
