I post the following three images. Think about them.
1) A Pondok in a vacant house. Wondering if any of you out there might remember such a pondok?
2) Planks, Planks , Planks..... as Clive once pointed out, back in the pioneering days, pieces of wood like these planks were highly regarded ...in later years, as youngsters we would nick these things whenever we found them lying around, you could make great dens out of them...
3) I just took this picture , so sad..... I knew the person that lived here about three years back, the garden was well looked after...... and now, instead of letting some pensioner move into the place, they prefer to leave it vacant ....
I know it cost's money for the mine, for servicing the house, but how much can it cost? N$ 1200.00? Why can't DeBeers start to market these houses to pensioners for N$ 1600.00 per month......? A safe town, and you get to add to the local economy from a Non Namdeb source..... Hellooooooo? I have been preaching this tale for the last 3 years in here, yet the people that have the power to make this happen, just ain't listening..... did any of you see the report about that old couple up at Uis that were beaten and shot at, bring the pensioners to a safe locked up town....... is there anyone else out there who can see the "bigger" picture?
Instead all we get is community meeting after community meeting, year after year.....with the same pathetic ideas..... THERE IS ONLY ONE SOLUTION TO THIS TOWN.....and only DeBeers can implement that.... Not the gov, Not the local NCCI......just DeBeers...... think outside the box..... safe my town......
Now there is my 2 cents for the day!
Mike, when were the burglar bars put in? I don't recall us having them. On the contrary, we used to go in and out through the windows all the time.
@ Patricia, in the 70's as kids we also were in and out the windows all the time, quicker to get to garden in this manner, sometime around 1980, the company but the bars up, although it had less to do with crime in town and more to do with the company;s insurance premium requirements....
