Title: Yet another Pedi Brought to Book from my school!
Post by: Michael Alexander on December 02, 2010, 02:36:17 PM
As some of you might have known, it turned out that my ex School, CBC , turned out to be a hotspot for paedophiles and my ex Rugby coach was in court to have his day. This bastard has even been up to stay at our house in Omund for a holiday back in the 80's..... The story about all the other funny priests broke on Carte Blanche about three years back, when one of my ex classmates went live with how the big father fiddled with him..... that bastard committed suicide eventually.....

Here;'s todays tale:

"
'Mommy I wish I could kill myself'

"My son said 'Mommy I wish I could kill myself, I wish I could just die'," said a mother as she faced a 72-year-old family friend across a Paarl courtroom on Wednesday.

She told him he had driven her son to the brink of suicide after he had repeatedly raped him.

"My son wants to kill himself," said the 53-year-old mother, who cannot be named to protect her son's identity.

"Over the years my child has been robbed of his innocence and had his mind contaminated. My child lives with blame, feels cheated and has been betrayed."

The mother said her son had been abused mentally, spiritually and physically by the long-standing family friend who has since been confirmed a paedophile.

Ian Appleton, a former Christian Brothers College (CBC) teacher and Scouts master, had in October pleaded guilty and was convicted of raping the now 10-year-old boy between 2007 and 2009. He appeared in the Paarl Regional Court for sentencing yesterday and the boy's mother testified in aggravation of sentence.

"Over the years my child was raped and will never get over it," the mother told the court.

She said the rape was the ultimate violation of human dignity and had left the boy wanting to kill himself. For years she had been waiting for justice. "Since my son spoke out about what happened to him I have been tossing and turning, waiting for this opportunity (to testify in court)," she said. Her pained, emotional testimony was preceded by an out-of-court altercation between Appleton and a group of people, including the mother's family and several people claiming they were molested by Appleton many years ago.

"Do you have to be physical?" asked Appleton as a woman and a man pulled him in an attempt to expose his face to photographers. This was followed by loud jeers, including: "But you were physical with our children 40 years ago." The drama was later brought to the attention of magistrate Nomawethu Smile by Appleton's lawyer, John Riley, who said Appleton was "pushed around and jostled".

The magistrate pleaded with the public to behave.

Smile also had to call for calm as the boy's mother's emotions lead to her shouting at Appleton as she testified.

She heeded the magistrate's advice to "just speak your heart out". Her testimony drew tears from her husband and others in the gallery.

"My child is suffering," she said, glancing at the diminutive figure of Appleton, who was staring at the floor.

At the end of her testimony, the public gallery erupted in applause, while Appleton appeared shaken.

The mother told the court the boy respected and was loyal to Appleton. However, he had turned her bright son into a pupil unable to concentrate at school, resulting in him failing Grade 1.

She said the trauma had also affected her son's participation in sport. "My son goes to the playing field with his tail between his legs. He does not partake in sport." The financial strain of paying for psychologists did not make the family's load any lighter.

She said paedophiles should not be allowed to roam free. "For all children in South Africa, there should be no leniency today," she told Smile.

With the court appearance coinciding with the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children, the mother of eight begged that Appleton be removed from society.

The child's mother was the second witness to testify.

Earlier, Department of Correctional Services correctional officer Luvuyo Mpayi-pheli recommended jail time. A clinical psychologist had previously recommended a suspended prison sentence, drawing the ire of the boy's relatives.

But Mpayipheli said: "The only institution that can monitor him 24 hours a day is prison."

Smile said she would also consider a letter written to her by a community member about Appleton before coming to a decision.

The case was postponed to January 24 for further testimony. Smile extended Appleton's bail."

He should be HUNG!!!!! I really wish the Western World would not be so soft and lenient to criminals. The Arabs have the best sentencing in the world with very little or no crime. The West has all the crime due to soft laws that protect criminals. Bring back the Death Penalty and you will see a turn around in crime.

... and now more of the pupils are coming forward now.....

"He came from a prominent Cape family. He was a teacher at a Catholic school and a scoutmaster. Now convicted paedophile Ian Appleton stands accused of sexually abusing a number of his former pupils.

This follows an article in the Cape Times in October which reported on Appleton's conviction for raping a seven-year-old boy a few years ago. The boy was the son of a family friend. He pleaded guilty.

Appleton, 72, appeared in court again this week in connection with the rape and the boy's mother testified in aggravation of sentence.

Soon after the October report, 10 men contacted the newspaper
by e-mail or telephone with allegations that Appleton had sexually assaulted them when they were boys, dating as far back as 1976.

Appleton was a teacher at Christian Brothers College (CBC) in Green Point between 1976 and 1982.

The men who contacted the newspaper – some CBC old boys, some former Scouts, some sons of family friends – gave accounts of their experiences. Many of their accounts revealed a similar modus operandi and in most cases Appleton was a friend of the boys' families.

One former pupil, a Cape businessman, told the Cape Times that the report had brought back bleak memories.

"I was horrified to hear the other day that he was arrested for abusing a youngster," said Rick (not his real name).

Now 40, Rick said he wouldn't let his children near Appleton. He did not want his real name to be used as he has kept the alleged abuse secret from his children.

Another former pupil said that he had come from a "staunch and proud Catholic upbringing" and his encounter with Appleton had left him "confused and frightened".

He had lived with his secret for more than 20 years. "I continued with my shameful secret and by all means have led a normal and successful lifestyle with a loving family. I have been burdened with the guilt of not voicing this encounter and perhaps saving other victims," he told the Cape Times.

The men want to know why Appleton was allowed to get away with his actions for so many years.

John Riley, Appleton's lawyer in the rape case, yesterday declined to comment on the new allegations, which are unrelated to the current case.

"I need to consult my client before commenting. I don't think it's appropriate to publish allegations from years ago without having their veracity tested in court," he said before issuing the newspaper with a threat: "Be very careful of publishing untested stories."

Many of the men have forwarded their accounts to the prosecutor handling Appleton's rape case, hoping they could be included in the case.

However the prosecutor in the matter, Rialda Jacobs, said she would not be considering the men's testimonies because most of the alleged abuse had taken place more than 20 years ago. She would not comment on whether Appleton could face separate charges arising from these allegations.

Jacobs added that Appleton had never been convicted of any previous offences.

Some of the former pupils said they suspected a cover-up by headmasters at CBC where Appleton taught maths and accountancy and was the sports master. The school closed in 2001.

One claimed Appleton was fired from CBC by former headmaster J Gaynor after he found out he was involved in molestation, but was allowed to feature in the college's sporting activities. "Why wasn't he excluded from all school functions?" he asked.

However, Brother Terry Dowling, spokesman for Christian Brothers, the church's committee that ran the college, said: "We refute the allegation that there was a cover-up because, as far as we know, there is no evidence of a complaint having been brought to the attention of the school authorities.

"We are saddened by these allegations and reiterate the church's stance that child abuse in all its forms, especially sexual abuse, must |be condemned and every step must be taken to prevent any occurrence."

Asked about allegations that Appleton had been fired from the college, Dowling said: "The principal at the time, JA Gaynor, is dead and we are unable to establish the reason for (Appleton's) leaving. In subsequent years (1983 to 1989) Mr Appleton continued to be involved in school sport."

He said the church had put in place preventative measures and strategies to make all staff in church schools aware of the seriousness of child abuse.

Meanwhile the Rev Peter-John Pearson, the Catholic Church's spokesman, said while the Christian Brothers had oversight of the college at the time, the church had also checked its records and had found no complaints from parents about Appleton.

"School complaints would not be dealt with by the church, especially if the person accused was not a member of the clergy," said Pearson.

Milly Siebrits, chief executive of the SA Scout Association, said Appleton was an assistant scout master in the early 1960s. "No complaints concerning child abuse were lodged with the association during the time that he was involved."

It is obvious that young boys would not inform anyone of the abuse they went through, that's why there will be no records of abuse cases. Now that the cat is out of the bag, those that were abused will recall their experiences and stand up for their rights.  madashell

Hanging the bastards is not enough. They should be castrated and the sent to prisons where the worst criminals are kept and let loose among them.

We went through a similar thing with the Priest at Saint Andrews School Bloemfontein. He was Father Keep and the boys called him father Creep, thank G-D he didn't touch any of my boys although one of my sons with part of the group of boys that beat him up after reporting it to the headmaster, and he did nothing as he was the Chairman of the headmasters union for SA and a deacon in the Anglican Church. So the boys grabbed him, broke his nose and two fingers. Violence is not an answer and I do not condone violence, however once the headmaster put all the boys in detention for talking "absolute rubbish and scandalous word mongering", and did hard PT for a month they decided to sort him out. He was eventaully arrested, sent to another parish and was told not to have any contact with children. He died from a coughing fit less than a year later. The school denied any knowledge of the allegations and although he was sentenced and fined, did not serve any time! A group of us parents got together with  legal representation and the head master went on retirement! But it took over a year and we fought to get councelling for the whole school, which eventually went ahead. So it happens in all religions and across the board. At the same time a woman maths teacher at Grey Colledge in Bloem was fired after she was found giving very special after school lessons. X marks the spot so to speak! So it is not restricted to men only! (The boys concerned would not press charges, said they learn't their lesson!) Boobs

So we can see  from the     Boobs   pic the after hours lessons  were indeed interesting for the boys  ,
..  .. Thanks  for the balance added  Skinny  one ..  Sad fact is  this sort of behaviour is not restricted  to RC Anglican  or whatever ,,  I was in a conservative afrikaans school  and due to my putting  a  teacher with  a penchant for young boys and girls (  mm he had no  set limits )  in  his  place in front of  a lot  of  class mates  my life was made a  bit of hell ,, diffs  is  I could  hold my head high  and no matter how  he tried to "punish " me  look him in the eye and tell him  I  knew  what he  was ..  this truth kept him in check ...
What  is not good   is the fact that the  hierachy of the  schools and the religious orders  whatever they may have been   tried to turn the blind eye ... and yes  unless  youngsters  were not as ( dont quite know why )  life equipped   at an earlier age as I  was  they  were left damaged ..
Very much  so by shame  and guilt ...
The  revelations  that are now occuring in these more enlightened times  will have a profound effect in the future ...
