Hardly ever chat on FB when on there  -  don't even know the dating thing, but thanks.

Some other asses think everyone is stupid and send you pm's on FB  -  telling you how they saw your profile and how they attracted to you and how beautifull you are and then some sad or soppy story after that.  Scammers galore ....  Have heard about a few women who have been caught like that and then they lose heaps of money and home and other belongings, because they fall for these creeps.

I just delete it when I get a mail like that or (depending on my mood) tell them to bugger off (I state way more rude than that).

I saw this warnig too late. A friend of mine got the invitation , but looked at the sitn , but did not create a profile . The next is that everybody on her addressbook received a message to invite you to confirm her as a friend. Of course I looked , could not find a profile . I just hope that nobody on my addres list got the invitation
Since last week I received several adverts from sites I never heard about before

Facebook is full of nasties....

Not much of a help, but I assist admin a FB Group that posts updates about Scams on a regular basis. Two or three times a week all members are messaged via their FB Inbox notifying of nasties we have heard about.

Altho' we mainly report FB Scams, we  also list any Phishing emails, Trojans, etc. that we get notified of.

For those interested:

Internet Security & Scam Notices

PS: A rather nasty one going around at the moment:

Fake Facebook Security Page Sending out Phishing Messages

Variation on previously listed Phishing Scams. Fake Facebook Security page sends out warnings about an imminent deactivation of the users' account because of suspicious activity detected on it. Trend Micro researchers' investigation in the matter revealed there are a number of profiles registered under the same variation (same diacritic marks) of the Facebook Security name. Users who have fallen for this scam are advised to reset the passwords on their Facebook and webmail accounts.

Don't use face book much Sandy!  quite recently I watched the film "Social Network" This is a story about two friends – one a computer genius, the other a business expert – who began a website that became the fastest growing phenomenon in Internet history. Three years later, one was suing the other for 600 million dollars (or 1/30th of Mark Zuckerberg's worth). It's a story about greed, about obsession, about our belief that all the money in the world can make us happy. But it's also unpredictable, funny, touching, and sad. It gives us that rare glimpse into the improbable world of mega-success.

The Social Network movie is a either a modern tragedy or a modern success story depending on how you look at it. Imagine going from nothing to a billionaire in less than a year. How do you even grasp that kind of success? How do you live a normal life? How do you address the constant lawsuits that eat into your everyday existence? And how do you do this at 22 years old? When I was 22, just busy studying tons of lessons in preparation of my upcoming examinations. Either way, it's fun to put yourself in Mark's shoes and picture out how you'd handle the situations.... This part I copied from their web site. "Mark Zuckerberg" is the youngest billionaire and would probable not give a S##* what anyone thinks of him, especially my opinion of him but it took three of them to start it! and I don't think myself not using face bookwill make a lot of difference..................but you never know!......................................... image04

I dont use any of the "special applications".

Apart from not using FB at all, this is good advice by Bertie: Don't Use the applications OR Games!

Also DON'T click on any of the random links that appear about 'SHOCKING' videos, game freebies, who visited your FB page, etc.

Another thing, Check Your Security Settings. Might not be of much use but every little bit helps!

To optimizing your security and privacy settings within Facebook’s labyrinth of options and interfaces, read the article at:

And finally...

tell them to bugger off

@Frank, watched the movie also, appreciated the tale, enjoyed it, but something does indeed stink about the creation of Facebook,

I have a FB account, don't use it much, like to lurk over Michele's shoulder and read her gossip though...

I think that one day, something big and "bad" will happen with FB...

Beware ... I removed my friend name and replaced it with *** .  Her whole address list was hijacked , and everybody on her address book received this message  . Needless to say , I checked and I presume all my friends received the same message

Hi,
I set up a profile where I can post photos, connect and share.
Do me a favor and confirm our relationship here.
Thanks,
