If my memory serves me correct, it was Anne Jones who married Andre du Toit not Caroline.

Yvette, you right - it was Anne who married Andre.  Carolyn married Pierre le Riche - not sure where they are.  I saw Anne a couple of Christmas's ago at my aunt's place - was so cool to catch up (we were in std 5 together - she was part of our "pin gang" spoken about in earlier post re School Days at OPS) - Andre's cousin married my cousin - so we're all sort of one big happy family now.

Hi Delia,

I recall you saying somewhere in one of your posts that you live in Table View? 7 years ago I had a shop in Table View's Pick'nPay centre. Framing and carpet business, it was at the first entrance opposite the bank (ABSA, I think) on the left. A few times I bumped into Anne and Andre in the centre. Rian and I lived in Durbanville and at the time Anne and Andre lived in Kenridge. I remember what a stunning couple they made. Maybe the Jones' will pop up on this site sometime soon. Would be nice to hear where they all are in the world.

take care

Yvette, i seem to remember a shop you describe in the pick 'n pay centre altho never had any reason to visit it.......i hate shopping as it is so when I go to p&p, i'm in and out so don't really take note of the shops around me.

Mike do they still have teenage dances?  And do the kids still have a Youth Club?

I don't know they won't let a fat balding overwieght 40 something in the front door.......  heheheheh!

The Youth club building still has the sign above the door, On the weekends there are groups of kids there, but I think it's run by a church group, but it is nowhere as noisy and mysterious as it was in our days.....

Do you remember when  the Youth Club was behind the Power Station? Then was referred to as a Bop Session.
What year did they move it to the Eric Davies Hall?

Debbie ..   yes  a  hilarious  memory   of  Mr Wormser  asking  us  to breathe  checking  us for  alcohol ..   we  always  got  through  unless  of  course  we  were too  unsteady  on  our  feet .. My  Mom  always  referred to  him as  a  gentleman  drunk ..  he  would  be  gently  topped  up  throughout  the  day  ..  always  upright  never  raucous ..  " Good  Morning  Elnour "  he would  say  to  her   upon  seeing  her  in  the  shopping  centre  and  walk  gently   and  sooo  upright  on  his way   to  his  shopfitting  work .. actually  a  very  creative  person  he  was ..

That's right Sandy. Was'nt he a diver? I seem to remember he had the "bends" from diving. Thinking of him now he was a sweet guy and I suppose he would have to have been tooted up to deal with us hey! Always had a very serious look about him. I wonder what he thought of us kids back then. Remember the tannies who used to sit at the desk?
I wonder where Jenny, Jackie & Joslyn Wormser are nowadays.

Yes  Debby  if  memory serves  me  correct a pensioned off diver .. what did they  the  adults  of  then  think  of  us kids ..  put  the shoe  on  the other  foot .. what  do  we  think  of  the  kids of  today ?  ..   too  grown  up too  fast ,  lose  "innocence " too  early  ,  too  hectic ..   too demanding , disrespectful  ..  much  more  materialistic  than  we  were   ..  sure  we  were  also  some  of  the  above  ..  just seemed  milder ..    seems the  standard  has  slid   .  society  has  changed ..  what  was  taboo  then  is  no  longer  now ..
Oh god ! sounding old .. but  yes  thats  where  we find  ourselves .. each  generation  looks at  the  new  one and  asks "  what  the  hell  is  going  on ? "  your  thought ??

No doubt our kids will also get up to mischief growing up, despite how much we don't want them to. I'm sure a lot of the older Omnd parents are raising their eyebrows at what their little darlings got up to right under their noses. I just think its survival of the fittest. If you get through these years unscathed then you've done well.

Debby .. So  we  have  indeed  ..  each  one  of  us  a living  example  of  being  naughty  in  the  good  old  days ..   Thinking  back  I  found  myself  in some  really  hairy  and life  threatening  situations  sometimes .. I used to tell  my  Mom   that  " if  something  happens  to  me  then you  will  hear  about it  if  nothing  goes  wrong  then you  will  hear  nothing " indeed  giving  her  cold comfort  .. like  saying  " hold  your  breath  and  lets  wait  and  see "   No  wonder  she  wanted to  brain  me  sometimes  but  then  also realising  that  I  had  to  bang  my  own  head   so  then  agreeing to  disagree  letting  me  do  the  adventure  and  best  of  all if  I came  back  tail  between  the  legs  she  would   not  do  the  I  told  you  so ...  My concern  today  is the  growing  drug  problem . and  the  social  acceptance  of    the  so  called   " recreational  drugs "   one hell  of  a  misnomer  ..   booze  has  its  share   of  problems   socially  but  does  not  rewire  one  as  drugs  do ..   done  and  still  do  my  share  of  clubbing  to  see  the effects   of  drugs on  so  called  grown  ups   .. what  about  the  young  ones ??

These are trying times to grow up in. There is no "normality" in school and society in general either. Drugs, booze on the one end. The drugs continue getting harder and the pressures keep getting more difficult. Yes, very dangerous and very serious then there are teenagers diagnosed with bipolar disorder, manic depression etc. kids are more suicidal than ever before (Northern Cape has the highest teen suicide rate in the country) The statistics are frightening. When you just think about the load kids have to contend with eg. non existent parents, HIV aids and many more issues. Self inflicting pain on themselves in order to forget a deeper pain becomes the norm. Being a teenager is no longer about being a teenager and "going thru a phase" as our parents would say when we were there. Parents today often have to sit up and take notice when their kids do anything remotely out of the ordinary.

It is a constant one on one with your children that keeps you in touch with them.
