Durban - The man accused of killing three men with an axe and wounding a fourth after his daughter was gang-raped and infected with HIV was arrested in Yellow Wood Park on Tuesday, said KwaZulu-Natal police.
Lieutenant Colonel Vincent Mdunge said he was arrested at 01:30.
"The body of the victim was found in Lamontville and the head was found in Jacobs. This happened about a week ago," said Mdunge.
He said another two people were found in hacked to death in Lamontville.
"A survivor of the alleged killing was [also] found in Lamontville," said Mdunge.
He said the police investigation was continuing.
The man would appear in the Durban Magistrate's Court on Friday.
Very sad, but something that I can understand ... especially with today's inexistant justice systems that protect the guilty more than the victim ...
A sad indictment on where society , norms and values ,, and yes the frustration of ordinary folk seeing justice not taking its course .. so the last resort is bush justice , kangaroo courts ,, and yes just plain old take it out on the perpetrators .. becoming more prevalent especially in the townships .. now where are our new " supercops " ??
SUpercops? I think all those cops moved to Perth, WA....
Apparently the father is an ex Blue Bulls player.
Durban - A former Blue Bulls rugby player was arrested on Tuesday in connection with at least three axe murders, KwaZulu-Natal police said.
A fourth man managed to escape.
One of the victims in the suspected revenge killings was decapitated.
Police spokesperson Vincent Mdunge said the former rugby player was arrested at a home in Durban in the early hours of the morning.
The 34-year-old suspect, who'd played for the Blue Bulls in both the Vodacom Cup and Currie Cup, was arrested at a home in Durban.
Police refused to name him.
The team investigating the murders in Umbilo, Lamontville and Yellow Wood Park confiscated an axe and blood-stained clothing, said Mdunge.
Police suspect that the axe they found is the murder weapon.
The motive for the attacks is said to be revenge, after his daughter was gang-raped and was infected with HIV.
Mdunge said the man would appear in the Durban Magistrate's Court on Thursday.
I do not say it was correct to kill the rapists, but I will still sign any petition to set him free. I can just imagine the physical and emotional torture the father and daughter must have experienced and will affect them for the rest of their lives. Knowing that the culprits would have walked the streets within a year with our justice system as it is, probably laughing at you in the streets because they're free to do it again and you can do nothing about it.... how would you feel? I'm sorry, but I would have thought about revenge myself (probably not killing, but definitely beating the *^%&! out of them), and I'm not even a Blue Bull supporter.

I am in agreement with you Bertie. It is not necessary to kill but as you so, due to our corrupt justice system people are taking the law in their own hands.
It is getting a bit like that here in the uk as well......the more guilty they are (it seems) the smaller the sententence!!!
Torture....then painful death springs to mind!!!!! madashell
People's morals have gone to Pot!
are-you-there
Reading this makes me think of a documentery we saw here in AUS about a guy in Johannesburg's black community running his own little security force. When they catch a criminal in the community, they give him punishment with a Sambock. Why do they do it and not the police? Because the police don't do anything. After they have beaten the living sh*t out of him/her they then advise the police and dissapear in the distance. They say that if they don't do that they will only come back and do more crime. Apparently this has been really affective but in the same manner it saddens me to see things like this. Isn't that why we there is supposed to be cops?
Well, that's my 2 cents!
Just keep on reading -- there are even judges that are now saying they dont trust the cops -- they appear to be becoming more of a law unto themselves . True criminals and international fugitives are allowed into this country ( take the czech ) allowed to live in impunity of the law .. connected to senior cops etc etc .. its becoming a mess .. We wont even go into the Jackie Selebi debacle ... so yes the fish is rotten from the head downwards ...
Yup Sandy, it's definitely rotten... and it stinks!!!!
What's sad is that it's the picture being seen by the rest of the world.
South Africa rugby star Ntshongwana 'in axe rampage'
Former South African rugby star Joseph Ntshongwana has appeared in court for allegedly hacking three men to death with an axe.
The killings are said to have been to avenge the gang-rape and HIV-infection of his daughter, local reports say.
Mr Ntshongwana, who appeared in a packed Durban court, was not asked to plead to three charges of murder, one of attempted murder and one of assault.
He is a former flanker for 2010 national champions Blue Bulls.
At least one of the bodies was decapitated and the head found in a dustbin almost 2km (1 mile) away.
Another victim's head was left hanging "by a nerve", police said.
Details of the third man killed have not been released.
"As the axe came down towards my head, I ducked and it scratched my stomach," said survivor, Khangelani Mdluli, 27, reports Cape Argus newspaper.
Police have alleged that Mr Ntshongwana stalked his victims over several days in and around townships near Durban before killing them.
The police cannot confirm that his daughter was raped, saying that may be investigated later on.
Mr Ntshongwana has been remanded in police custody and is due back in court on 7 April for a bail hearing.
Ex Bulls player charged for axe murders

Durban - Joseph Ntshongwana, the 34-year-old former Blue Bulls rugby player accused of three axe murders, has a history of mental disturbance.
This emerged on Wednesday when he appeared amid tight security in court for the first time on charges of murder, attempted murder and assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.
He was arrested at his parents' house in Yellowwood Park, Durban, on Tuesday in connection with a spate of axe attacks over the past two weeks. One of his victims was decapitated and his head dumped in a bin.
Following earlier media reports that the killer was seeking revenge for the rape of his daughter, who was allegedly infected with HIV in the process, it emerged on Wednesday that Ntshongwana does not have a daughter.
According to informed sources, rape is not mentioned in the statement by the complainant (who survived an attack) to police. In the victim's sworn statement, he said the attacker said: "You gave my baby girl HIV".
Police guarded all the doors in courtroom 10 at the Durban Magistrate's Court and only the media were allowed to attend the hearing.
The tall, lean Ntshongwana, wearing a red T-shirt and black sweat pants, bowed his head and followed the proceedings with folded arms.
During his rugby career, he played for the Barbarians in 1996, for the Blue Bulls from 1998 to 2000 and for the South-western Districts Eagles in 2002.
Psychological observation
Advocate JP Broster, for Ntshongwana, told magistrate Anita Govender he plans to apply for his client to be sent for psychological observation under article 77 of the Criminal Procedure Act.
A psychologist's report about Ntshongwana's medical history was handed to the investigating officer.
Dr Gérard Labuschagne, commander of the police investigative psychological unit, who has been involved in the case since last week, said article 77 is meant to determine if a person is fit to stand trial and able to contribute meaningfully to his defence.
If this is not the case, an accused can be declared a state psychiatric patient until his condition improves enough to stand trial.
Prosecutor Martin Mtambo indicated that he wants Ntshongwana examined by a district surgeon to determine if psychological assessment is necessary.
The headless body was found in Lamontville and the man's head in a bin in the Jacobs industrial area. Two bodies of people who were hacked to death were found nearby.
Police raided Ntshongwana's home and found a weapon and blood-stained clothes.
The case was postponed until April 7.
