Title: Falling Down!
Post by: Michael Alexander on April 11, 2011, 04:26:44 PM
I was just talking to somebody, that mentioned how, "They" had bashed into a beggar working the parking lot at the Bayview Mall in the Cape, the beggar commented on the bakkie's number plate, "you From Oranjemund?", to which T replied in the affirmative...... "My wife comes from there...", he stammered......, "Where's your wife?", asked T, The beggar motioned towards the corner of the pavement, where a grey haired , unkept woman, was working at making scooby wire bracelets....

It turns out that they needed to sell "X" amount of the bracelets to get enough money to pay for their bed for the night. As generous as he is , T handed over a bit of change for them and gave them a lift to where they were going to reside overnight..... during the entire ride, the woman, never made eye contact and never spoke a word. T recognised who she was....

What played on my mind the most , was the fact that this girl/woman was in my class at OPS back in the 70's.... she went onto boarding school.... like the rest of us....

It bothers me that here was somebody that had a "good" education here in Omund.... and has now landed up begging on the streets of Cape Town.... what went wrong...

Jean, we were in class together, you might know who I am referring to.......

Life as each of us knows it can so easily be taken away....be it by choices we make or circumstances out of our control.
There but by the grace of God go....... any one of us.

That is sad indeed. And believe me, it can happen to ANY of us. We all believe we're too clever/educated/good for this to happen to us. Believe me.... LIFE and FATE doesn't ask us what we want in our path next - LIFE JUST HAPPENS, and we are at the receiving end.  Be thankful for what you have, it can be taken away... easily....
