Hi guys. I need help on deciding what route to go..
At work I have wireless internet - a cable from the landlord, and it's working 100%, also unlimited at a total cost of R170 per month, all inclusive... think that's a bargain.
NOW - I really need to get internet at home. I have tried the VOdacom 3G modem - no reception! I'm sure the others like MTN wont be of use either. I don't know what else to consider other than Telkom. We have a telephone line at home now, so I'm wondering - anybody using the Telkom ADSL internet or other similar product?
Any advice would be great (in layman's terms - I'm not a computer boffin) on what is to offer, keeping in mind this is the PLATTELAND.
Thanx!
I would say go the ADSL route, but NOT THE CAPPED package that Telecom gives you guys down there..... I think mweb has uncapped...... will post later...
Out lying areas may not have ASDL, it depends how far you from the exchange.
There may be another type of wireless Internet there... not 3G.
Think we discussed this sometime ago....
Thanks guys, will research a bit more.
@ Mike S - I did search for the topic. Found one, but couldn't get an answer there that really gave me an answer.

Thanx Mike.
1. Breedenet - had a lot of people complaining and warning me about them...
2. IP Wireless - the company I'm using here at work. Excellent so far, no problems technically and I'm very satisfied with product. Last time I spoke to them though, the cost to have it installed at home would be a bit high - no "plug-and-play" there. If it was closer to the practice, maybe. Will discuss it with them again.
I use Telkom ADSL with Mweb uncapped; works great. Phone MWeb and ask about your area.

I also know many people that use this and are very happy. My sister had it on a farm near Grabow and it worked well for her....well....until thieves stole the telephone lines. I'm still contracted to Vodacom 3g otherwise I would also be going this route. I fortunately get a very good signal from vodacom but have only heard complaints from others.
I would go the Telkom ADSL Mweb route if it works out your way. xxx
When we first moved here, we didn't know which way to go but eventually ended up with Telkom ADSL. Yes it is limited but due to our own stupidity, only once did we go over the limit and as we now monitor it, it works fine with the least of problems. I have heard a few bad things that the other companies have, so I think it's just a matter of choice..........
Sorry Bertie your Internet providers are all foreigner to me hope you can work it out! if not there is always pencil and paper or one of these................. image04

Oh thank you Frank! I'll go ask at the Telkom shop next time I'm in a bigger town - the photo must be of the latest technology available - will print the photo and take it along so they know what I'm looking for! daman
IP Wireless were going to contact me after 3 pm yesterday to come and test the reception on the plot, but it was a no-show.... small town business.... probably had better things to do, like fishing at the river...
I made a mistake though, the monthly fee is actually R195. Still a good price I'd say, seeing that it's uncapped, and amount of data uploaded or downloaded not limited. They're apparently also upgrading their systems, so that there is no "resistance" between uploading and downloading (two different paths/towers).
Windows 7 and Internet explorer did it again . after an update I could not log on to my service providers "WEBMAIL " Checking with them they advised me to switch to fire fox instead , as other clients of theirs experience the same problem. after restoring to a ealier date , all were OK again. I should have stayed with LINUX !
thanks Mike Stenson , following your advice , I had no more problems with mice / keyboards etc.
IP Wireless contacted me at last. Looks like they will be the best bet.
Supply and Installation of antenna at home around R1500, followed by R195 per month, uncapped.
Don't think I'll get better than that and with them supplying here at work without much hassle, I think that's the route I will go...
cheers
