Hearing more tales about how the mine plans to close the newly refurbished town pool for four months over the winter,
Com'on , Men in Black, you guys have just released press briefings on how you are back to making a profit, You have just spent more than $350 000 on repairing the pool.
The two chaps that run the pool for you, are superb in what they do. Both are on a B1 salary scale and were working for OTMCO. I cannot see the real benefits of axing two B1 salaries from the town pool. Place them on a contract with the mine.
As it is, the kids in the town are already bored. Don't take this institution away from them also. Then there is also us, we, the older folk that swim our daily lengths in that there pool.
The mine must also be cautious about "outsourcing" the pool, as you shall be needing it for training purposes when you start up your sea walkers.... let's not go down the diving club pool route again.......
Change to winter hours, it's not all about ice cold winter winds blowing through Oranjemund in winter..... any old Oranjemunder will tell you that some of the best east wind days occur during winter, raining and snow in Cape Town and Natal, we get lekker weather.
So please, if any Knob or person who can make a call reads this, please reconsider the "closing" of the town pool...
Yours Sincerely
Citizen
Mike
are-you-there
Whilst on the subject of entertaining the kids of our town, the parks are no better off..... when is the company gonna put some money into our parks? The slides and swings that have been removed due to old age were never replaced......
The parks are also full of broken glass and booze bottles......
So, if the parks are no good and you take away their pool, Cat Stevens will ask, where do the children play?

Mike, this is a good sign that the powers to be are not at all interested in the well being of the workers or the enviroment of the town. Now, who do you blame, De Beers, the Goverment or the "Local Management"? Obviously, this must come from a local element, whereby they are trying to save as much as they can without thinking further than their noses but do the top management actually realise what is going on or are they being blindfolded as well.................... I wonder..............!!!!!!!!
IT WAS POINTED OUT TO ME TODAY, THAT THE CHATTER AMONGST THE PLEBS IN TOWN, WAS THAT THE KNOBS WHO HAVE EARMARKED THE POOL CLOSURE DATE FOR THE END OF MAY, NEED NOT TO WORRY, SEEING THAT THEY ALL HAVE THEIR OWN POOLS IN THEIR GARDENS..... SO BUGGER THE REST OF THE KIDS IN THE TOWN........
SOMEBODY HAVE THE BALLS TO MAKE THE CALL, AND PUT THOSE TWO B1 CHAPS ON A CONTRACT AND KEEP THE POOL OPEN!!!

In the community notices....
"NOTICE TO ALL RESIDENTS OF ORANJEMUND
Please note the Library and Town Swimming Pool will be temporarily closed from 15 May 2011 for about a month. This situation has become necessary in order to take stock at the Library and to privatize the running of the Library and Swimming Pool. During this period residents who make use of the Town Swimming Pool are requested to join the Sand Sharks Swimming Club and make use of the school pool.
In due course a letter of interest will be released for any person interested in running the Town Swimming Pool and Library.
Apologies for this inconvenience

I wonder, if the pool and parks are this important to the community, maybe the community should step up and propose an out of the box solution. What a change that would be, if Oranjemunders and all local business took ownership and care of this town to heart! There's just too much complaining, and too few people willing to put effort into solving problems that are not only Namdeb's to solve. We all live here, or are we just parking until there is not much of an Oranjemund left? A year or two ago when the parks were really badly neglected, some concerned residents around the parks started watering the lawns, fixing the broken apparatus. Now those are people who LIVE here, who demonstrates their social responsibility better than any knob who can make a call. What call? This is our town, what prevents us from being a participant, not just a recipient?
one Karma plus for RIP ... well put ...
