George, you just brought back magic memories of my visit to the Oktoberfest in 1988 - went on a Contiki tour and we landed up in Munich over the Oktoberfest - needless to say we (myself and a bunch of Ozzies & Kiwis) partied up a storm, ended up being swept out the Hofbrau at closing time, climbed on the first bus we saw in our drunken state and landed up going round and round Munich not knowing where to get off - eventually decided McDonalds was a good place to go for brekkie and jumped off at the first sight of the golden arches - still didn't know where we were. Can't remember how we eventually got back to the campsite - we obviously found our way somehow as we found ourselves on the way to Amsterdam 2 days later with the rest of the tour. Those Germans sure know how to keep a party going..............I'm not even a beer drinker but at a Beerfest, what's a girl to do.........if you can't beat 'em, join 'em ;D I found the beer there different to here in SA tho.......something to do with the chemicals we put in ours apparently, their's being more pure?
Hallo Delia
So you had a good time, thats the main thing.
I was on the fest 3 times this year to take videos (only for that reason) never had a beer but lots of fun....
The last night was the best, lots of guests and all in a good mood, dancing and singing
Yes the beer is only made of natural incrediens.
"Reinheitsgebot " by Law
My brother-in-law lives near Münich (Tegernsee) and he raves about it and says that one must go the first week but rather at the end!!
I have a collection of t-shirts and hats.
Would love to go at least once ...........
@ Susan
Tegernsee a beautiful part of Bavaria
I must tell you, my pix are from Stuttgart Oktoberfest called Cannstatter Volksfest, almost as large as the one in Munich but not as famous. Munich is the original. I was there some few times but have no pix.
I was on our fest 3 times Beginning Mid and End
The End has a smashing firework displayed, here a montage of different effects
There you go Susan, you've already got accommodation sorted - half the hurdles down already - you have to make a plan to go, it's an absolute blast and an experience of a lifetime, even just to see for yourself how those women carry those steins 6 in each hand. my mouth hung open - we've all heard about them, it's another thing to actually see it. they make it seem like child's play.
One more impression from our Oktoberfest
Beer Wagons with wooden beer barrels drawn by 6 heavy horses ( 1 ton/horse)
I love them.....

My father was Fred Boehme (passed away this March) he worked in town at "Engine Bay"he spent 30 yrs in Oranjemund.
@ Diana
I am sorry to hear that, but death is part of our life........ :(
It figures that i know the name i was there in his time
@ Diana
That will be fun when you write in german as long as i dont have to answer in afrikaans ;D
We have satelite televison (Deukom) which has RTL, ZDF, SAT, Pro Sieben to name a few and we got to watch the walk in as well at the opening of the first "vat" and a few other programmes in different beer tents, amazing.....
