Greetings Alfie,
Thanks for great pics. I remember that old clubhouse - had many a tipsy after-match party there - and played that course when it was a nine-holer. Those were the days when the company provided everybody with a basic set of seven clubs and a golf bag. The clubhouse was later re-erected at the Pink Pan where it served the Yacht Club for several years until their own brick building was built. After that I think it was scrapped.
Sadly I couldn't blow up the pix to make the captions readable. At a certain size the text becomes a blur. Is there any way they could be re-posted in a different format?

Not much is know about the early history of golf in O/Mund, but rumour has it that a course existed during the 40's some where in the destert to the north of town. However O/Mund golf club came to being when a 9 hole course with alternative trees was build on the northern bank of the river in 1953. The club house in those days consisted  of a old prefabricated house of German origin situated  in the vicinity of the present No.6 tee. By 1968 the clubs active membership had grown enormously and this, coupled with the fact that three of the hole where to be incorporated in the mining area led to the decision to construct 12 new holes. The services of golf course architect Bobby Grimsdol were retained and the new 18 hole course was opened officially by Theo Pretorius, chairman of the OGC in 1970. During reconstruction the present clubhouse was build and after further improvements, was taken into use during 1974. Contrasting sharply with the surrounding Namib Desert the par 73 course with its lush kikuyu fairways and Bent grass greens is a living testimonial to the efforts and generosity of CDM to whom we are deeply indebted.

This topic came up in conversation today, seem's the Golfers of today ain't happy with the condition of the greens ......

Rumour has it that Gary Player, had some input in the design of the course.... but it would appear to be a false one...
