Title: Because That's how it's always been done!
Post by: Michael Alexander on June 02, 2011, 08:27:29 AM
I keep forgetting to mention this, but every morning when we drive Kelvin to Creche, we drive from 5th avenue up into town to the little traffic circle in the middle of town (opposite Casey's) and then turn left up past the Youth Club and the bank where we turn right up past the mess to the four way stop by the school on 11th avenue....

Now here is the ritual...... some of you might remember the sh*t lorry, the one from the plumber shop... that sucks all the gunk outta the drains around town.... well with diesel fumes belching out of it's exhaust we always catch them at the little circle, they have just driven down from St George square, past the bank , they then turn up towards 11th (past the old bioscope to the old dry cleaners...) then they turn west up 11th towards the 4 way stop at the school and continue down past the hospital....\

What tickles me, is that they could just turn left at the community church and head up past the mess....but No, they always drive the extra 800m down to the little circle and turn left up to 11th....

Why? Nobody knows..... we can only assume that this is because. ... this was the route that they have taken for the last 30 years....so that's why they do it...

Kinda like those parks and garden guys back in the 70's... after oranjemund just received record rainfall on Friday all the sprayers around the town were going full hog, because we always watered the lawns on a Friday....

Just  an observation....  are-you-there

Mike, you are quite correct in saying that this is the way it was done and this is the wat it will be done. We had a driver in the refrigeration section that took the same route to deliver fridges when they were company issued. He would go to first ave, then second, then third and so on, even if he was going to deliver a fridge at 13th ave. Why, you might ask, because we always drive that way he used to say and there was no way that we could change his mind. It used to take about 2 hours to deliver one item, no sense of time at all...................

Add all those miles' petrol over 30 years - should take you quite a distance!  rooster1

Mmmh!

800m per day(5 day week)

22 days per month(Average)
22x12 months = 264x800m=211200m per year

30 years x 211200m = 6336000m

= 6336km driven, just because that's how we always did it!

He-he, Thanx Mike, I was too lazy to do the maths!   Wow, that's quite a few tanks' worth of petrol.  At today's cost, wonder how much the fuel for that distance is worth?  Say, at 10km/liter, that will be 634 liters, x The price of petrol per liter today?
= R              . (Mike, will you award some-one with a karma point for the first correct answer?)

Years ago , on a rare rainy day - we noticed that the water lorry [ slip sliding away ] was spraying seawater on the haul road . I went over and asked the driver why ?? on a day like this . He answered . Dont get clever with me . My werk pampiere , dit vertel my dat ek moet vandag hierdie pad water gooi - so ek gooi die water .
huh ?
