Gee! Does this union never give up..... always an issue with something, a union is meant to be there to help build a relationship between the workers and the management, not to keep threatening disrupions.....
Sounds like the MUN workers want a few days off but do they realise that when a person goes on strike, they never recoup the monies they loose whilst on strike.
... and targets ain't reached, thus no incentive bonus's to be paid out...
Very big surprise awaits them - was on the news this morning that Namibian Gov intents to proclaim a law to load the mining companies in Namibia with taxes that will make them stagger, so ..... bonus payouts will be cut drastically due to profits earned being pumped into the state coffers !!
Sorry NUM, you will have to fight government on that one ~ not strike at the mine is going to help you with that !!
They're not following SA Malema's choise of Nationalisation - nope, if you can't have what is their's, then kill them with tax.
@Dalene, I was following the Nam GOv's Tax increase tale also, truth be told...
1) Our income from the SACU decreased dramatically...
2) Gov increased civil servants income dramatically... to keep them quiet and to stop asking what happened to the huge fraud involving their pensions...and to keep them of the streets from protesting...
3) Gov gave the war veterans a lot of money, to keep them and their kids of the streets protesting...
SO in essence they are giving out more than they are getting in ... and as we all know this ain't how business works, unless you are the Yankee gov.....
So the solution was to increase the tax base by upping the mining industries taxes.... thus actually getting somebody else to cough up for their freewill of spending....
This has a darker side, due to the fact that it will scare of potential investors.... thus creating less jobs in the long run and less tax to gov...

Just received this email from the mine, issuing a statement......with regard to the strike..........
and..... also this...
"Dear All
Following the communiqué sent out earlier today regarding the planned strike action, attached find picketing and striking rules as agreed between Namdeb and the MUN.
Please take note of the following extract taken from the Picketing and Strike rules document:
Strike Rules
– No blocking of town entrances entrances or exits both businesses and residential areas.
– No unreasonable noise or disturbance will be created either at work sites or at other businesses or residential premises
– No interference with visitors, non-striking employees, contractors or suppliers to Namdeb will be allowed.
It is important that you familiarize yourselves with this document."
I see that there is a fair turnout gathering down at the MUN offices this fine dusty morning in Omund!

Well about 150 employees went for a march through the town this fine morning.... then headed over to ST.George's Square to sit around and chant at the Admin block, wonder if anyone told them that the mine management relocated to the office block behind the Admin block about 2 years ago...
Noticed a number of policeman have been drafted in from outside the town to control any unruly behaviour, although I have to admit that this particular bunch of protesters seem quite docile compared to the masses in years gone by....
Oh! Well, the Spar is doing quite good trade today, with all the new police in town....
No mine strike here, but municipal wokers. You should see what the roads look like afther they have done their 'draffie' through town! Dustbins overturned, litter strewn all over the place, sticks & stones in the road, broken bottles in the road.
Now, that's what you call sensible negotiation .... bugger up everything and show all that you have no sense !!!!

I must say, that I don't believe that the UNION have the entire support of their members, I was really disappointed in the number of protestors, come lunchtime, most of the mob had gone off for lunch........ really unprofessional strike this year, Sigh! sad to see how things just are'nt done the way they were in the old days...

Day two of the Big Little Strike of 2011, loud music blaring down at the square, another march through town, more policeman milling around, oh! and something new, Placards, the usual one's saying that the GM must leave, and that one must leave..... Yawn!
Some guy in the home safety industry reckons that the mine must be losing about N$ 4 million a day due to the mob..... amazes me how these figures get banded about, back in the big strike of 81, we were losing 11 million a day.......

Try the municipal workers strike ,,, the usual vandalism ,,, our new Mayor Ms de Lille says she determined to catch out the destructive ones ,,, picture in the Argus shows them looking at big screen security pics to try identify perps .. and she want to sue the union for damages ... about time ... keep them in court and bankrupt them .... 18 % increase ,, where are the ratepayes saddled with all the increases going to be able to bear that bill ?/ and the assholes dont realise any extra costs just get factored into their municipal bills as well ... Namibian newspaper quotes mine spokesman saying 4 million loss per day, strike still illegal and that there are only 150 striking workers out of 1600 employees.......

Actually Mike ,, its been something the DA via Ms Zille have been trying for ages to get pushed through parliament .. another tack they will be taking is that the organisers of the strike said the members will behave ,, if they have not then they will be pushing to have the strike declared illegal ... We not gonna take any crap in DA land .. alre Ifady the blue light brigades are banned ... if those bloated corrupt ANC politicians want a blue light brigade they quite welcome to one .. diffs is it will be in the back of a cop van with the blue light flashing ha ha
I was just thinking about our strike, if the union leadership claims that the majority of their members voted in favour of strike action, why did only 20 odd percent of their members turn out to strike...?

Well this morning's march pass went off without a hitch, save for a pensioner, driving around one of the traffic vehicles blocking the road and having his drivers license confiscated ... he was told to come and collect it again later on today......
I must say that the numbers appear to have increased by about 40-50.....
Heard that there has been a bit of intimidation......
Otherwise, it's all quite on the square......

A benefit to Bogenfells is NOT a benefit to all! Namdeb strike is illegal! No work no Pay.
The company considers Civil and Disciplinary action against illegal strikers. We urge striking employees to return to work. This is an illegal strike!
I got a rather rude retort from someone when I said the interdict was a good thing .. .. my take .... they are entitled to strike if they have a wage dispute or whatever .. provided the strike is declared " legal" that there applies no work no pay as they are witholding their labour .
That they be allowed to rampage the street , intimidate , vandalise etc is unacceptable ..
STAY AT HOME !! I say ...
